Here's one point, whatever DMS you use, do not allow Silos and always prefer version control with the proper naming convention.

As much as possible, make sure you are purchasing subscriptions from the same vendor for these three type: Email/Chat, Document Editors, and Document Management. This is to ensure compatibility of the documents edited/shared between these tools. Their feature list may say that the document types created with their tools are compatible with other formats, but in reality I have seen that at the least it corrupts the formatting. It gets annoying as the documents and collaboration frequency increases. For example, in one project we had Zoho for email, chat, and DMS, but had Office 365 for editing. It always used to cause problem with formatting and document type when edited the document in one and opened in another.
