What do you do if your remote team lacks the essential tools and software for effective collaboration?

First, ask them what they're lacking and why it's important. If it is important, provide it. If it's not important, educate them. Second, if it is important, find out why it wasn't provided to begin with and make sure such omissions never happen again. If it wasn't important, find out why the people weren't better educated and prepared for the job. Generally, when performance isn't up to standard, don't begin with the worker, begin with the worker's manager.
