I partially disagree. To find out why a team has low motivation and creativity one of the best way is to ask them. We can suppose that it is because of the missing clear and realistic expectations, and that might be the case. Or something else. If we already identified that we have an issue with the motivation, I think that asking about the source of the problem would immediately show to our team that 1) we know that something is wrong 2) we care about that 3) we care about them and trust them 4) they can openly talk about their concerns.

Reinforce the commitment from Business, Leadership and Sponsors to buy in the new strategy and complete the fund allocation. 3. Talk to the team and compile the challenges faced by them and solve these one by one from their way. 4. If required do a re-organization based on the new vision and mission, fix the vulnerabilities within the system and improve the decision-making process. 5. Set S.M.A.R.T objectives to the members and allow them to think freely, provide advanced tools aiding in their day-day job. 5. Build R&D framework, coach the teams on importance of innovation.

Celebrar el éxito y aprendizaje es imporante para mantener la motivación, en un entorno que por momentos puede ser desafiante y estresante, es importante parar y ver lo que hemos logrado, como equipo, como colaboradores e incluso como líderes de proyecto. En el laboratorio donde hice mi tesis doctoral era comun tener espacios para celebrar los logros del semestre o del a?o. Esta experiencia la llevo a equipos que lidero e incluyo nuevas herramientas.

I think that most of us know people who are highly creative even when they are not so motivated and vice versa there are people who are extra-super motivated but do not have too much creative instinct. Creativity is an ability, while motivation is a behavioral state. R&D needs both, a good manager is making it sure that there are creative people in the team, and a big portion of the team is motivated at most of the time.

The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results. Frustration and disappointment are the result of a lack of effective measurement of the quality of work of each member of your team. Use simple tools to measure the efficiency and individual results of your team members. A good example is a simple 5W+2H, you need to act before frustration of your team and your client. Actions need to be taken at the right time. And this is only possible with the use of tools to measure individual performance.
