I agree with the comments mentioned already. Additionally, I would like to add a thought from a resume formatting perspective: ensure that you have a simple yet effective, application tracking system (ATS) compliant resume. This will reduce the chances of your resume being rejected by software.

Few things to consider: 1. Learn from your rejections – look for patterns to act on it. 2. Build a solid body of work – reports, publications, presentations, patents, others. 3. Have your point of view, base it on first principles. 4. Communicate crisply – written & verbal. No beating around the bush. 5. Practice story-telling – don’t’ get lost in weeds, keep big picture in mind, be prepared to deep dive. 6. Be curious to ask. Do your homework about the organization. Avoid perfunctory questions. Be more probing. 7. Be prepared to talk about your interests & career goals, and why you feel the organization can help you achieve your objectives and vice-versa.

It is very difficult ti get enrolled in a very important R&D Centre if your resume is not strongly endorsed by an expert of the subject in question by very concise Cover Letter that is based on specific key words. It is not only in base to the technology to be used, but it is just a variation of a technic or a just ′reagent’ that change your resume from a ′nobody’ to ′the main man in field’.

R&D is a great skill along the being knowledge full at the same time. It's not common to be found in every resource. I suppose one can develop good basis of this skill and can advance in this field. Some points are important to posses to have good R&D skill. Literature review, having good information of the relevant field. Analytical skills. Critical thinking. Drafting the proposal with all pros and cons. Presenting the proposal. Testing and conclusion. Sample preparation, presentation and archiving. Documentation. With all these skills, one can advance in the field of research and development.

Any business function you manage, it’s important to upskill yourself on a regular basis. The importance turns critical for the r&d function due to many reasons - short evolution cycles of technologies, massive competition to build differentiating products and services and the customer demand to solve their business problems with greater speed and lower cost. All combined it becomes almost mandatory for an r&d leader to be aggressive in upskillng oneself on a regular basis. If one’s resume is getting rejected, it’s more often the case that the recruiter and hiring leadership doesn’t consider the candidate showing enough initiative and commitment towards staying current on skills and pushing the envelope further.

The best way is to target up to 3 jobs/companies. Build CV tailored to those jobs and companies; be in front of hiring manager 2 or 3 times, through networking, coffee, practical experience, etc; understand what they are looking for. Finally present yourself as the solution that they are now already familiar with.

Look for opportunities to gain practical research experience, such as internships, volunteer work, or freelance projects. Hands-on experience can significantly enhance your resume and make you a more attractive candidate to potential employers.

Figure out why.... Use mentors (or 1st level connex on LI) to evaluate your resume &/or profile. I'd start with your resume because it's always part of your application. As a mentor & hiring manager here's the biggest problem I see-all of the bullet points on the resume are "responsibilities" and none are (quantified) accomplishments. My rule-of-thumb is that no more than 1/3 of the bullet points are responsibilities (and hopefully a lot fewer). Another key thing to consider in your application: pure technical people are (relatively) common. The diamonds in the rough are those that combine technical with Leadership and that speak the language of Business. Who can stand in both worlds--tech niche & business? I want to hire them!
