If the project team is experiencing a negative work culture, I would address it promptly by fostering open communication channels. Organizing team-building activities, encouraging feedback, and resolving conflicts promptly are crucial. Implementing policies promoting inclusivity and respect can help cultivate a positive environment. Regular check-ins and providing support to team members can also mitigate negativity and enhance morale.

Engaging the team through an anonymous survey is a no no for me, as I believe a one-on-one conversation is more revealing and personal, and would give a better understanding of the situation as it won't be a one way conversation but on a personal level. Such kind of communication always do help in boosting the work ethics of an individual positively.

An example I've seen about leading by example. some time ago quite recent though, we undertook a project, an onsite project a team of 15 with a coordinator. At the planning phase of the project we had a meeting where rules and expectations where discussed by the coordinator and one of the key discussion was the issue of late attendance by the team. Anyways everybody agreed to change their approach and start to be punctual. But this was not the case. Now the coordinator doesn't come atall to check the project he could stay months without coming and so the team mrmbers upgraded from coming late to not even coming atall. And that led to a total stop of the project. And the project could not be delivered.
