However, this improvement should not just be limited to keeping up with the latest tools and techniques, as most of them are just reinterpreted versions of existing ones. Instead, we should focus on building a strong foundation by revisiting the basics. Based on my experience, 90% of problems can be solved effectively through a thorough analysis of the current situation, identifying the root cause, developing a plan, and monitoring the execution with discipline. Therefore, it's better to master the fundamentals before becoming an "app engineer" - someone who just inputs data into the application without understanding the results. So "back to basics" and use an Ishikawa diagram.

To see that there is a problem it sometimes is the most difficult part of all. We all are living in situations all the time, which seems to be normal. But from time to time they are not. When we need to use problem solving skills, we are far gone with some situations. Then, before making a decision it, seems to be a good way trying to make a change of perspective. Lesson learned from previous problem solving efforts are always a good start point when facing a new challenge. It may not be identical but it often rhymes.

In my opinion, we should view problem-solving in organizations as a project. Depending on the nature of the problem, its extent, the organization's culture, its organizational chart, and other parameters, we should choose the best approach for this project. Sometimes, a more informal approach like adaptive and agile approaches is better, while other times, it is better to choose a more formal approach, like the predictive approach.

I jump-start my day with a cup of coffee and a session of puzzle-solving—it's my way of "priming" my brain. Think of it as a pre-game warm-up where the puzzles line up like little mental stretches. Whether it’s Wordle or a Mini Crossword, each one nudges my brain from sleepy to speedy, setting the stage for a day full of problem-solving. Mixing up the puzzles keeps my mind on its toes—no room for lazy thinking here! This mental priming goes hand-in-hand with some physical activity to make sure both the mind and body are in top form. By the time I get to work, I’m fully primed and ready to tackle whatever complex challenges come my way, all with a smile. It’s like having a secret weapon in my productivity arsenal that keeps my spirits high!

This will ensure that your problem solving addresses the real cause abd not symptoms .

Most organizational solutions have a shelf life because the environment is constantly changing. Your problem solving is a key component of effective change management. Don’t struggle to keep up, drive to stay ahead and retain the first mover advantage.

This is when a coach or mentor really helps. If you just can’t seem to problem solve effectively and keep making the same or similar mistakes seek help. Engage with a coach or mentor for assistance. Don’t reinvent the wheel, remember someone has already been there done that. Leverage the experience of the ones who has done it before at a high level. You are not in it alone.
