What do you do if your problem solving ideas aren't getting through to your boss?

There are some phases I would go through in this case: 1. Before talking to my boss. - Have some self-criticism of my ideas. Talking to my boss: - Keep it positive: Approach it as a chance to work together and improve, not criticize your boss. - Focus on the benefits: Explain how my ideas will solve problems or make things better. - Adapt to their style: Present information in a way that matches how my boss likes to communicate. 3. If it is still happening: - If my boss is consistently close to new ideas, it might be time to re-evaluate my responsibilities in the company.

Always ask ‘what problem does this solve?’ You can then assess the appropriateness of your idea with yourself and your peers. As long as your workplace in general is open to suggestions, may be worthwhile going through the process of establishing transparent and clear lines of communication upwards and downwards. Understanding communication structure and ensuring everyone is on the same page can ensure communications are getting where they need to be.

It’s extremely important to know your boss goals. If he is looking to reduce company costs don’t even consider to present a proposal that will add costs to operations or any other area. Be aligned to your boss and he will hear what you hl have to say. Be a good listener!

In my opinion just an add on in this would be that there can be a possibility that your idea is great but you aren't able to execute it the way it is in your head so asking your boss for help is something you shouldn't hold yourself back from. Your boss is your boss, a leader to guide you through the process and obviously he knows more than you do, so be open to suggestions and changes he wants you to make in your ideas and do not be rigid towards those changes.

Actually I disagree with your idea of not going through to your boss. Whenever a good idea is pitched it goes to everyone. Sometimes bosses have personal fridges with certain employees where they intentionally ignore ideas by certain employees. The key is to be as vocal as possible and always share your idea without any fear.

Another take on ‘know your audience’ is: ‘understand their perspective’. So few people have the ability to really put themselves in ‘ some one else’s shoes.’ Your manager is probably being bombarded with many ideas - why should yours be the one implemented? What you see as a priority might not be the business or your manager’s priority - take that into account. Have you tried different approaches honed to your manager’s style? Do you fully understand/ know what their style is? Do they prefer detail or visuals or story telling or top line action plans? I would also add this piece of advice - know when to let it go And - NEVER take it personally

You have to follow the process of problem solving. What problem you are solving should be clear to your manager. After getting his approval to dedicate your time and energy to solve it, you should proceed to work on solving it by following the process. Just randomly approaching your manager with idea and then which problem it will solve is not a correct way.

One way I have found out is to have all your ducks in a row and the data to back yourself up. It will make it easier for your boss to understand your position. Problem solving can be a bit of a pain and may take some creative thinking. The boss is the boss not always right but the boss, if he/she values you and your abilities to be a leader there shouldn't be a problem. Micromanagers are hard to get through to, they're always right, hate to be called out, however sometimes you just got to grab the bull by the horns and go with it, earn there trust in you an as asset not a liability.
