What do you do if your personal life is being overshadowed by work demands as a content developer?

As a content developer facing work demands encroaching on personal life, it's crucial to establish boundaries. Start by defining set work hours and stick to them. Prioritize tasks, delegate when possible, and communicate openly with supervisors about workload concerns. Implement time management techniques like the Pomodoro method to enhance productivity. Lastly, make time for self-care activities and maintain a healthy work-life balance for overall well-being.

One thing I have found helpful and mostly over looked by dutifully folks is setting boundaries. When you are responsible for something, it's very easy to get lost in it, especially when you enjoy doing it. So set boundaries, if you get so engrossed in it, set alarms/reminders to notify you to get up, wrap up or close shop. If you work 9-5, work within 9-5, a well planned (prioritize) 9-5 can be very effective, unlike a 9-5 where you try to achieve everything, all at once, everywhere. Now if you choose to go beyond 9-5, set a boundary for how far, a 15mins, 30mins or 1 hour. Just the way companies set policies and stick by them, set your policy on these matters, ensure they are clear to you and those you work with.

Your work will take as much as you're willing to give. It's up to YOU to set boundaries. This is true no matter whether you're new in your career or are an industry-recognized talent. Be brutally honest - not just with your job, but with YOURSELF - about how much you can get done in a week. Track your work effort and calculate how many units of x (a content proposal, presentation, white paper, blog post, lab, etc.) you can create in a workweek while having time to rest, recover, and care for yourself. Communicate that to your manager, along with the data that backs it up.

Time management! First, keep your working hours fixed, then set the priorities and deadlines for your tasks in your calendar. Focus on high-impact work first and batch other similar tasks together to optimize your workflow and avoid context switching. Set boundaries, communicate your availability, and protect time for self-care and personal commitments.
