What do you do if your peers are surpassing you and your chances of promotion are dwindling?

Take ownership of your actions and situation! 1. Are you missing some skills that can help you develop? 2. Do you need to develop your network more? 3. Are you proactively looking for that promotion or do you hope they recognize your hard work and just offer it to you? If in doubt, you're doing option 2. Be vocal and proactive. 4. If all else fails, re-evaluate your place in the organization and start looking for a new job. Your success is the result of your choices and attitude. If you're bothered that your career is not progressing it is only up to you to take action. So take action.

Continue learning, training, repractice, retrain, read coaching mentors, consultants, strengthen your strengths every day, reinforce your weaknesses, increase your knowledge, skills, if you can compete and improve, hard work with enthusiasm

Self-assessment: Take a critical look at your skills, performance, and areas for improvement. Identify any gaps between your current competencies and the requirements for advancement in your organization.

Seek feedback: Request feedback from your manager, peers, and mentors to gain insights into your strengths and areas for development. Use this feedback to create a personalized development plan aimed at addressing any skill gaps and enhancing your performance.

Professional development: Invest in your professional development by seeking out training opportunities, attending workshops or seminars, pursuing certifications, or enrolling in relevant courses. Focus on developing skills and competencies that are valued in your organization and align with your career goals.

Network and visibility: Build relationships with influential colleagues, leaders, and decision-makers within your organization. Increase your visibility by volunteering for high-impact projects, participating in cross-functional teams, and actively contributing ideas and solutions to organizational challenges.

When disappointed by diming opportunities because of an outstanding colleague, the first thing to take care of is your mental health because a diming mental health leads you nowhere but to a deadend. Can it be by facing the truth that you have a skilful colleague? Can you be sincerely grateful for that? Enjoy its skills? Get inspired? Find opportunities to grow? Find opportunities to make friends? If the colleague shadowing you is no worth of admiration or personal relationship. Consider finding an environment that value behaviors that are more coherent with your values.

Advocate for yourself: Proactively communicate your career aspirations, achievements, and contributions to your manager and other key stakeholders. Make a compelling case for your readiness for advancement and seek out opportunities to take on additional responsibilities or leadership roles.

Stay resilient: Stay focused on your long-term career goals and maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of setbacks or challenges. Be patient and persistent in pursuing opportunities for growth and advancement, and remain open to feedback and continuous improvement. If necessary, consider exploring opportunities outside of your current organization that better align with your career aspirations and growth potential.

Review your overall promotion strategy, what strategies are you employing, and what have you forgotten to do, that has worked in the past. By now, hopefully you will have spoken to peers, to understand what worked for them. If any habits, or patterns, are not working - look at one of these each week, and consider 'what am I willing to change, and how do I do that'. Take it one step at a time. Consider additional help, from a coach or mentor, to raise your self-awareness and confidence. Are you fully committing to current projects, and demonstrating results. Keep a file of your successes, and results, and bring those into key conversations when networking internally and externally (not bragging, just where it fits in the conversation!).
