What do you do if your partnership is failing?

Assessing the situation is the critical first step in addressing partnership failures, requiring partners to confront issues honestly and objectively. By conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the partnership's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, partners can gain valuable insights into the root causes of their problems. This process may involve soliciting feedback from stakeholders, conducting performance reviews, and engaging in open dialogue with each other. By prioritizing transparency and collaboration, partners can lay the groundwork for developing targeted solutions and revitalizing their partnership.

An example of a great partnership is one that uses strengths based roles and responsibilities. Assess whether the individuals operate from their strengths or stressors. We can all perform under pressure but if the partnership is built on inherent strengths, skills and empowerment it might just need a tweak in responsibilities to align it to the original purpose and expectation

Having a clear roadmap for success is essential. Define your partnership's goals and establish measurable benchmarks to track progress. Equally important is outlining roles and responsibilities for each partner. This clarity avoids confusion, ensures everyone is working towards the same objectives, and leverages each partner's strengths. Documenting these details in a formal partnership agreement or project plan creates a permanent reference point and fosters accountability.

The third step in my Growth Methodology is to assess shared core values. Individual values form the roots of our purpose; and we should have individual core values to operate from, but a great partnership is when we share core values as a compass for our decision-making when we work towards the same goal. It strengthens Trust amongst Partners.

Communication is everything in partnerships. When a partnership fails, this is the first place I look. How well do you understand your partners values and motivations, and how well do they understand yours?

Step 4 is to align Purposes…. Does your partnership serve the same Purpose or had the focus shifted? In essence you should channel efforts, energy and strategy with a mutual a purpose. If that is no longer the case make an unemotional strategic decision whether to re-align the purpose of your partnership or if you should sever the agreement based on amicable terms.
