What do you do if your late career is threatened by the rapid evolution of technological innovation?

To remain employable in your late career despite a fast-changing technology landscape can be mitigated by embracing life-long learning. In my case, despite being in my fifties, I haven't been turned down for mid-level technology jobs because my skills are up-to-date and in short supply in the marketplace.

Be willing to adapt your role to include newer domains within banking technology, like fintech collaborations or digital transformation strategies. Utilize your deep industry knowledge to provide insights that only come with experience, such as risk management and regulatory compliance.

Updating our knowledge is crucial at any career stage. Taking examples of learning AI starts with grasping the AI fundamentals, such as the distinctions between traditional AI and Gen AI. From there, delve into specific foundation models and concepts like context windows and tokens in multimodal AI models. Explore how real AI models are trained, studying papers like Meta's LLama2 and other research on diffusion models and large language models(LLMs). Practice fine-tuning models with hugging face with a data scientist's mindset and developer-focused mindset, such as creating a vector database and incorporating Langchain &LlamaIndex, etc. You can enroll in online courses, webinars, and, most importantly, through hands-on real-life projects.

One of the things I have found useful is to read up on changes taking place combined with watching videos to build my capacity in order to stay abreast with changes in technology.

Start by building a portfolio of new technologies in 3 simple steps : 1. building a side project on GitHub, make new Youtube videos, and blogs on the same topic where you highlight your side projects and decode the technical details, as well as the potential value to organizations. 2. Update your LinkedIn profile with new achievements and skills, such as certifications and publications. 3. Centralised display : You can create a linked bio or a website page as a central location to help display your expertises and past experience. What's more, engage in events like conferences, webinars, or podcasts to share your knowledge and insights regarding the technologies, hope those help!

Remain curious & prioritise upskilling to ensure your relevance, then lean into the unknown and the opportunities these opens for you. Nobody ever said it is going to be easy but the experiences you would go through will be intangible.

It also helps if you are curious about the changes instead of viewing it as a threat. This helps with the learning process and opens up a lot of opportunities.
