What do you do if your late career expertise is overlooked by potential employers?

Expertise in the same job for many years will not be considered as skills by many employers. Growing knowledge within the expertise to specialise in chosen subjects will make you stand out. Others with varied expertise within the same industry, being in many different roles and managing different aspects of the business draws more potential.

Experience is always coming, but it needs to be accompanied by another important skill: adaptability. It is important to always be open to innovations and new learning.

Reframe your expertise in a better structural framework of sentences. Remoulding your words make your expression much appealing.

Many of us fail in this field of networking. Experience spanning over many years would have brought you across many different people who have moved to various divisions or fields of work. Always network effectively and continue to grow your professional friends’ not only for job specific but to keep abreast with latest corporate news across different industries.

In order to improve my networking I would attend events related to my area of expertise, where I could meet new people related to my work field. Also I would consider taking some course or Master's Degree, where I could meet colleagues and professors of my area of interest.

One needs to not just rest on past laurels , and talk but walk the talk!! It would be great to ask the organization for a project and in that project your skills set your expertise, your networking and interpersonal skills, how you adjust to the new environment and if you are an expert , you will be able to handle the project well. As an Educator I Remember earlier in my career I was asked to set a question paper for physics when I was an English expert I collected some old question papers, took the syllabus covered, went through the marking scheme did some research it seems easy now but back then it seemed daunting and I did it ..I was given a leadership role. Showing how you can work in a crisis shows you as a never say die professional
