What do you do if your Information Security team is diverse?

We should not understand the diversity of our team as a difficulty, rather it is quite the opposite, it is a strength that we have to know how to value. Cybersecurity is a sector that requires a lot of specialization. This same specialization is what forces us to think about a multidisciplinary team where there are roles dedicated to the protection of the workplace, the perimeter, forensics, analysts... Now, the fact that the team is diverse does not mean that it does not have to work in a coordinated manner. In that sense, it is very important that the team shares a vision and is aligned under the same strategy. If not, friction and imbalances appear that end up generating fissures and security gaps.

Difference in domains is a blessing in disguise, as it brings people and teams together which implies more creativity and greater perspectives of risk identification and problem solving. Also, a bigger team and more domains in InfoSec helps in collaboration which kind of cross check each other tasks and indirectly validate the process like an internal audit.

No debemos entender la diversidad de nuestro equipo como una dificultad, más bien es todo lo contrario, es una fortaleza que tenemos que saber poner en valor. La ciberseguridad es un sector que requiere de mucha especialización. Esta misma especialización es la que nos obliga a pensar en un equipo multidisciplinar en donde existan roles dedicados a la protección del puesto de trabajo, el perímetro, forense, analistas... Ahora bien, el hecho de que el equipo sea diverso no significa que no tenga que trabajar de manera coordinada. En ese sentido, es muy importante que el equipo comparta visión y esté alineado bajo una misma estrategia. De no ser así, aparecen fricciones y desajustes que terminan por generar fisuras y brechas de seguridad.
