No matter how beautiful and innovative ideas are, you must ensure that they are compliant to extant provisions of relevant codes. All design must be have inherent safety features. This would ensure that risks to lives and properties as well as economic losses are mitigated.

Partial factors of safety are infused into design to ensure that safety of end users is not jeopardised due to outlying or unanticipated actions on structures. Redundancy could be embedded in design to forestall disproportionate collapse of structures due to local failure of structural elements in the structure. It is key for structural engineers to prioritise safety in structural design by infusing inherent safety features in designs.
