What do you do if your healthcare organization needs effective leadership for change initiatives?

Healthcare is a complex environment that requires leaders who have the capacity to employ behavior that are conducive to their audience and ability to interpret healthcare laws. The field requires abilities beyond high school education and certificate courses out there. The healthcare field needs college graduates and contributors with graduate education for the field to be effective. All levels of contributors and leaders should be appropriately educated to meet the demands of the field.

Identify leaders within the organization who possess the necessary skills, experience, and vision to drive change initiatives effectively. Look for individuals who demonstrate strong communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Consider their track record of successfully leading change efforts in the past and their ability to inspire and motivate others. Evaluate their capacity to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. By identifying leaders who embody these qualities, you can ensure effective leadership for change initiatives within your healthcare organization.

In order to be a great leader, follow my leadership KPIs: -- Your team member must KNOW their role and what they are supposed to be doing -- They must be PROUD of the work they are doing -- They must feel like an INTEGRAL part of your organization/mission. Meet those 3 and you will not only establish consensus, but also a powerful and unstoppable group of people working with and for you.

This is essential. Far too often, we simply expect every leader to understand and have the emotional capability and the leadership skillset to foster effective change. Instead, training should include the mental, emotional, and leadership skills that will help leaders successfully create buy-in, communicate effectively, and manage resistance. The change falls short when we only focus on the "thing" changing and not the people involved in leading and executing it.

Learning is crucial to our personal and professional development. And not just textbook knowledge, but true life knowledge, empathic skills, listening skills, leadership skills, etc. Provide not just the training, but the time and space as well. No one likes to be rushed through a mandatory training on their lunch hour over cheap pizza from the corner store because clinical requirements are still ongoing or stay late because that takes up precious time with their friends and family. Make the time and space for all attendees to truly dedicate their time to the training during working hours without any simultaneous clinical demands.

Provide training opportunities for current leaders or emerging talent to develop the skills and competencies needed to lead change initiatives effectively. Offer workshops, seminars, and coaching sessions focused on change management, strategic planning, communication, and leadership development. Tailor training programs to address specific needs and challenges within your organization and provide ongoing support and resources to reinforce learning. Encourage leaders to participate in external training programs or pursue certifications related to change management and leadership. You can build a strong foundation of capable and confident individuals who can drive successful change initiatives within your healthcare organization.

Clear communication from leadership is non-negotiable any time. It doesn't matter if times are changing or not. Keep your crew informed about what's going on and keep the two-way lines of communication open. Information doesn't just trickle down. It has to flow up as well. If you don't know what your front line healthcare workers are doing or thinking, then you are completely blind as a leader in your organization.

Ensuring you are making progress is, of course, important. How do you do that? By constantly being open to feedback and input from the front-line clinical staff. If you are not receiving any input, they don't trust you and don't want you to know how they truly feel. Only when you receive open and honest feedback will you know that you have their trust and have reliable data to work with.

To establish change or a transformation you need 1. an attractive goal: is change necessary for economic reasons to ensure the survival of the clinic? Should innovation be created for better patient care? Or the creation of efficiencies through digitalisation? 2. outstanding leadership that inspires and supports the employees. That convinces them of the advantages, so they will cooperate voluntarily The leader should have the following 3 competences: - Communication skills - Solution-Thinking - Charisma and believing in this vision It is helpful for the leader to have a coach at their side as a sparring partner. This enables deviations to be recognised quickly, conflicts to be overcome more quickly and goals to be achieved more easily.

I will follow Kotter's model of change management: 1- Establish a sense of urgency: 2-Create the guiding coalition: Pulling together a group from across the company who is responsible for managing the change program will increase the likelihood of success. 3-develop a change vision: 4-Communicate the vision 5-Empower broad based action 6 Generate Short term wins 7-Never let up 8-Incorporate change in the culture Throughout this process, I will prioritize ongoing employee engagement.
