Fundraising is a people business. The most important thing is your ability to tell a story and to convey why your team, product or service is going to win. If you need some assistance on things like deck formation you can always post something on platforms like design crowd, upwork or fivrr to get some help to make it look better. You really don't need a ton of tech ourside of a deck (via powerpoint, google slides or docsend) and a way to get it in front of potential investors. That could include an email list, LinkedIn 1st or 2nd level connections etc. Keep it simple and focus on the content and the story. At times, people give too much focus on the tech.

The nonprofit I am most associated with recently encountered this issue. The leadership did not understand technology and how it can create fundraising opportunities. It took a couple of years to develop programs and fundraising concepts which worked. You need to identify where your technology roadblock is. Most times it is with people who do not understand technology.

Define your objectives and target audience for each technology, and establish how you will measure success and impact. Not all the advice will be helpful, but it beats trying to figure it out alone. See if you can serve another fundraising organization you believe in and respect for a short season. You will learn a ton by helping them and you’ll uncover important questions you wouldn’t even think to ask. Dare to share your mistakes and ask for help. Others have been there too. They can probably help.

Surveys are a must! Don’t assume you know what they need… ask them. Utilize the least expensive and simplest forms of tech until they no longer suit your needs and then upgrade. Regular communication, tracking, and accountability are keys to success. Make sure you keep them as priorities. Find tech that helps you do those consistently. In fundraising, personal contact beats tech every time for asking. But for reporting and follow up, tech can spread the word and inspire others much quicker. Fail quickly and ask for advice/help often. Most people will appreciate the opportunity to share what they’ve learned.

Seeking feedback and suggestions from donors, supporters, staff, and partners can provide valuable insights. Use these insights and lessons learned to refine your technology and fundraising strategies and plan for the future. Additionally, celebrate achievements and recognize efforts and progress to maintain motivation and morale within your team.

We started to add technology based fundraising into our nonprofit. From simple social media posts publicizing the outcomes of our nonprofit to pure play fundraising drives we tripled the donations with in 3 years.

Don’t limit yourself by being the only person who knows your failures. Have at least 1 advisor, preferably a small team of them, and keep them in the loop. Ask them to ask hard questions and be willing to admit when you don’t know the answer. Then go find out. Set a rhythm to your accountability processes. Bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly check-ins with accounting, donors, advisors, board members, etc. Regular frequency will build habits and expectations that will also help you catch problems earlier. Make sure to acknowledge your achievements, even small ones. That will help keep wind in your sails. Then you just need to maintain the rudder and keep your eyes on the horizon. Lastly, be careful of burnout. Evaluate your own needs too.

Once the fundraising campaign is set up, it is just the first step of the journey. One must stay tuned to how the public reacts to the different forms of the campaign, I.e., crowdfunding platform, flyer, cold-calling, etc., and reflect upon where to direct more efforts towards or less. Adjust and fine-tune the campaign along the way. I would recommend trying out different ways at the same time, so you can compare and pivot along the way, given time is not unlimited and there is a deadline to reach the funding target.

Depends on what you consider to be your core strengths. If technology is not one of them, that's fine. Consider the other billions who don't know what you are an expert at.
