What do you do if your film project fails and you want to keep your career in the industry?

Learn from it. Don't beat yourself up - it is an immense undertaking with so many aspects you cannot control. Surround yourself with as many experts as you can find and listen to them. Try again.

You have to pick yourself up & keep going. 2017, I shot a documentary (researched, wrote, directed, narrated, produced, marketed & distributed) .It was my first film & I knew next to nothing about filmmaking.It didnt turn out as good as I had envisioned for a myriad of reasons. Even though Iwas able to license it to a couple of platforms that were just starting out,I felt I should have produced something better so I left production for a while and went into distribution instead. If I had kept going, I would have produced( and maybe directed) more films , but the recovering perfectionist in me won. Bottomline: If your film didnt do well the first time, learn from your mistakes and keep creating.You get better with each movie.

The film business is vast and so many things can actually go wrong, but also so many things can go right. Recalibrate and come back with more knowledge and oomph to get the ball rolling. There aren't any guarantees but there are also huge success stories. ????

After decades in an industry where considerations beyond its inner circle are seldom acknowledged (the statistics support this), it's clear that Hispanics are often excluded. Therefore, it would be naive of me to believe that any meaningful change or opportunity is likely. This exclusion extends to academia as well. It's disheartening to see how institutions claim to value diversity but are unwilling to even consider the work of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. It's as if they speak from both sides of their mouth, saying they want diversity while actively ignoring the contributions of diverse voices.

Take it as a chance to learn and grow. Analyze what went wrong, seek constructive criticism, refine your skills, and prepare for the next take. Your career is a series of scenes—some need retakes!

Since I’m a positive thinking person. I would pick myself up, dust myself off and start all over again! I never give up! And neither should you.

Like in every work of art, no filmmaker actually knows 100 percent if her movie will succeed or not. We're just optimists. When I make a movie and it doesn't do well, I look back to the process and think through to see if I put in my very best, if it was a better attempt than my previous work, once my answer is a "yes", then I find solace in that and move on to the next project. If the answer is a "no", that calls for reflection on what I didn't do right.

Always reflect, look back on where you may have gone wrong. - Were you over budget? - Not enough on the marketing side? -Wrong audience? Then learn from it. Plan your next move with the learnings and new education and go back out there!
