1 Recognize Bias

Recognizing your own biases is the initial and perhaps most crucial step in ensuring your feedback remains fair and constructive. Personal biases are the preconceived notions or attitudes that unconsciously influence your behavior and decision-making. They can stem from a variety of sources, including past experiences, cultural background, or even personal preferences. To combat this, take time to reflect on your feedback and consider whether it's truly based on performance or if personal feelings are playing a part. Self-awareness is key; by acknowledging your biases, you can start to work on neutralizing their influence on your feedback.

If I find my feedback influenced by personal biases, I take a moment to reflect and question the root of my opinions. I imagine giving the same feedback to someone I view differently to check for fairness. Consulting with a trusted colleague can also offer a fresh perspective, acting as a soundboard to ensure my feedback is objective. Additionally, I invite feedback on my feedback, creating an open dialogue that encourages transparency and keeps me accountable. Grounding my observations in factual evidence rather than personal interpretations helps maintain objectivity. Essentially, it's about continuously tuning my approach, ensuring my feedback is balanced, fair, and based on concrete performance, not bias.

Es ist wichtig sich genaue Gedanken darüber zu machen, was man über die Person denkt. Ich habe dazu eine tolle übung. Sehe dir einfach ein Foto eines Menschen an und schreibe dir alles auf, was dir zu dem Foto in den Sinn kommt. Analysiere im Anschluss deine Notizen und du wirst erkennen, wie unglaublich viele Vorurteile und Einsch?tzungen wir uns unbewusst machen. Das ist die Grundlage, um Voreingenommenheit zu reduzieren.

Diversit?t heisst n?mlich auch, dass jeder Mensch einerseits unterschiedlich ist, aber auch unterschiedlich auf die Welt und auf einzelne Dinge blickt. Nutze diese Perspektiven. Nehmen wir an, du schaust dir ein Foto eines Menschen an und du machst dir Notizen dazu, was du von der Person denkst oder vermutest. Lasse diese übung auch andere Menschen durchführen und beobachte, was sie sich aufschreiben :-) Am Ende wirst du ein relativ klares und ein objektiveres Bild schaffen k?nnen.
