What do you do if your feedback to students is demotivating instead of inspiring?

In a situation like this, I will identify the reason why they performed poorly. The reason will dictate what action to take next to make them supersede my expectations in the following assessment.

When I realize my feedback isn't inspiring students, it's time for a feedback makeover! ?? I start by putting myself in their shoes—would I want to hear what I'm saying? I try to balance critique with encouragement, highlighting areas of improvement alongside achievements. I also aim for a conversational tone, keeping it real but positive. ?? If my feedback needs a little sparkle, I add a dash of humor or a motivating quote to keep students engaged. After all, the goal is to uplift them and help them grow, not rain on their parade! ??

Eliminate intervening factors that distort clear communication between server and learner. Clarify goals/objectives. Listen EMPATHICALLY!!

Reevaluate feedback strategies, focusing on constructive criticism and encouragement rather than solely pointing out flaws. Acknowledge students' efforts and progress, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement tactfully. Foster a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel empowered to learn from mistakes and strive for growth with positivity and encouragement.

Coloque-se no lugar dos seus alunos e tente entender como suas palavras podem ter sido recebidas por eles, ou seja, reconhe?a que o feedback pode afetar emocionalmente os alunos e demonstre empatia em rela??o às suas rea??es. E n?o deixe de solicitar feedback sobre o seu feedback, dando a eles a seguran?a para falarem a verdade.

An open dialogue would be very helpful. By giving your students the best guidelines, chances are they will try to make the most of each lesson and soon they will have a better performance during the classes. It's possible to turn a negative feedback into a positive moment in order to motivate students to move forward.

I think about open dialogue, not only with the teacher, but with their classmates. We need to practice together this dialogue skills, to listen together and recognize their judgment standards. Be an young people in this connected world make us call them to social commitment responsibility too.

Teachers can carefully select the words they use to provide pupil's with feedback. Can parents also be involved in feedback to help pupils understand feedback?

Let's provide to our students the notion off self-efficace too: I like to peer assessment, that provides them the feeling of give facts based feedback; I also like to construct with them anothers ways to achieve th learning objectives. For me, that's make them see each other as a group with social responsibility, sense of collaboration as we need in our society!

It is essential that as teachers and trainers we can provide concrete tools to our students to be able to address the path that we are taking towards the required improvement. If we only mark or point out the error without accompanying concrete strategies that help to navigate this step, it will result in poor efforts and we will not obtain the expected results. Step by step, with firmness, always accompanying and exercising a scaffolding function to guide towards the best possible results.
