What do you do if your failures become stepping stones to becoming a better motivational speaker?

Failure and adversity is the most common question asked. “How did/do you overcome adversity”? Meaning having real life stories about how we, or others use adversity to win is essential. Business Judo? (from the book: 5 Systems of Successful People) is the art of flipping negative into positive, and the expert flips adversity into more, an advantage. So failure is absolutely “stepping stones” to success.

I would not think, that there is a motivational speaker on the planet that has not experienced failure at some point. You learn from the failure, you grow from the failure, to do this review what it was that went wrong, how could you change this so that your presentation next time is better as a result of the experience. Stay connected to the reason ‘Why’ you are there speaking in the first place ??

Failure is a sign of trying and with trying if something happens it is nonetheless immense learning!!! So don’t let the emotions overpower your opportunity to learn from your failing as a motivational speaker. Consider one thing, you anticipate failures then fail fast and grip over immediately. Failure opens up floor to:- Learn from your mistakes. Analyse your gaps Understand the audience Revisit your content Rehearse your delivery Position yourself And once you move up the tough way up, imagine the authenticity of examples you can quote to inspire and motivate your audience ??

Every “failure” becomes immediately useful as fodder for sharing when you speak - the important thing I have learned is that it’s wise to allow some time to elapse before jumping right to telling the latest failure story for a few reasons. 1- if you are “still bleeding” that’s not the best time to share because it will be felt by the audience and hard to bring them out of feeling your funk 2- giving yourself some time to digest the failure will also allow for even more insights to reveal themselves 3- you want to actually see and have experienced and celebrated what the win in the loss was to transfer the message of inspiration to your audience with authenticity

Embracing failure is not about celebrating mistakes but rather acknowledging them as valuable learning opportunities. It's about adopting a growth mindset that sees setbacks as stepping stones to success rather than roadblocks. Take time to reflect on what led to the failure. Identify the factors that contributed to it and the lessons you can extract from the experience. Use this knowledge to make informed decisions and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Failures and struggles are just lessons to be learned and stories to be told. Overcoming struggles can be a critical key to showing authenticity in your presentation. Having a mindset of looking the gray cloud and seeking the silver lining helps you persevere on those rough days.

Failures are simply part of any opportunity. When we look to avoid them, we can't see what's right in front of us, opportunity. When speakers share any part of their story, helping the audience embrace how opportunity was created out of failure gives them something to tangibly relate to. Even when we are handed manure, that manure can become a fertilizer for something great. Achieving that perspective is powerful for any audience too.

Utilize specific questions to analyze your performances, and actively seek diverse feedback from your audience and peers. This structured reflection process will enhance your understanding and effectiveness as a speaker.

I agree, but know when to screen out feedback or criticism that is not useful or goes against your authenticity. Just because something didn’t land for a particular person in the audience, doesn’t necessarily mean that entire section should be scrapped or even revised. If you receive similar feedback from various sources that could, however, be an indicator to rethink the content or delivery. If you’re unsure if you have sources that can be trusted consider hiring a professional coach.

To effectively seek feedback as a motivational speaker, use audience feedback forms, peer reviews, and mentor critiques for diverse perspectives. Record and review your presentations to self-assess performance nuances. Engage with social media for broader audience insights and consider professional consulting for detailed analysis. Incorporate interactive sessions for real-time feedback and conduct follow-up interviews for deeper insights. Combine these external evaluations with personal reflection to align improvement goals and systematically enhance your speaking skills.

You are often your own worst critic. This makes it all the more important to record yourself and take a critical look at your own performance. Accepting criticism is an art that you need to learn gently. Some harsh criticism can throw you off course if you are not practised in accepting it. You don't have to take everything people say to heart, it's a point of view, an opinion, and you can take it and appreciate it as such, but it should be a help, not a brake.

To adjust our strategy involves acknowledging that setbacks are part of the journey and using them as learning opportunities. Reflect on failures to identify areas for improvement and build resilience. Seek feedback to gain insights and refine your approach. Take calculated risks while celebrating progress along the way. By adjusting our strategy based on lessons learned from failures, we can navigate challenges more effectively and continue moving forward towards success.

Becoming more confident in the way you want to speak, knowing what to emphasise and when, are all ways of breathing more life into your presentation. It is also worthwhile attending special speaker training courses. A musician takes singing lessons, so a speaker can take speaking lessons. Losing the fear of trying something new that can help you improve is an important step in developing and revising your own strategy. Who do I want to be, how do I want to be perceived? These are questions that should be part of a speaker's strategy.

One thing I have find helpful while facing challenge (s) is networking. You have to check your connection and make necessary adjustment. Cut aways those who contribute nothing to your development/pulling you down.Embracing failure means you need to learn and unlearn some certain strategies.

It is never about why something happened to us, or why we failed, but how we got there and how we are going to continue becoming/developing what we desire/d for our lives. When I served in the military, we would have planning meetings prior to training and then meet up and review how everything worked afterwards. We would look at what went well and then discuss what did not work as well as we had hoped and make adjustments. This has provided a powerful framework for me throughout my life, although failure hits differently when it is personal. The moment that we let shame join the conversation about our failure, we become frozen and instead of adjusting our approach we spend too much time beating ourselves up.

This involves consistently working towards your goals, despite obstacles or setbacks. It's about maintaining focus, dedication, and resilience in the face of challenges. By practicing persistently, you build skills, knowledge, and experience over time, increasing your chances of success. This approach also fosters a growth mindset, where failures are seen as opportunities to learn and improve. Keep pushing forward, stay committed to your objectives, and embrace the journey of continuous growth and development

No one would question that an athlete needs hours and hours of practice to perform at the highest level, but when it comes to presenting, some think a little here and there is enough, but this is far from the case. Only those who constantly practice and improve their weaknesses will be able to give a performance on stage that is worthy of what you want for yourself and what the audience whose time you have deserves. No master has ever fallen from the sky.

I agree with this assertion, failure means there is need for improvement. This called for proper review of skills and mastering of new discovery. Then , it requires practice consistently with full dedication. With all these,there will be an improvement and success.

When your failures help you become a better motivational speaker, it means you learn from your mistakes and use them to inspire others. Instead of letting failures bring you down, you use them as stepping stones to reach higher and encourage others to do the same.

Failure is only a small moment in our entire journey through this life, especially if we allow ourselves to open up and choose a different end point in that journey. I fail all of the time, but the worst failure in my life happened years ago and it was so devastating I was not even sure how I would get from one day to the next. If I stopped my journey at the point of that failure, I do not know if I would be here today. However, I found that others did not care that I had that failure as much as they valued that I shared my failure with them and gave them hope for their own futures beyond their own failures. The best motivational speakers use their failures to motivate success in others, not to gain sympathy or validation.

We are always scared or feel inferior to bring in the topic of meditation or at times religion or various " sensitive" topics that come under the umbrella of D&EI( diversity, equity and inclusion) It's very common to suggest action strategies but the "inner me" unless get's reasons to stand and fight- Nothing Works . We end up getting another series of failures and mental health issues. There had been times when I just sat with people with no words ( or minimal) exchanged still next and next and next meeting got planned finally the person became too busy ( happily and successfully) to sit for such No Words& No Action" meetings.

First off, I don’t believe in failure. What people think of as failures are just life experiences. I believe that we can harvest the teachings and blessings of any life experience. Why would you not want to learn from your life experiences? That’s one of the joys of being human. Whether you are a keynote speaker or in another profession, you can harvest what you have learned and experienced by using it another situations. Sometimes teachings and blessings come right away. Sometimes it takes a while. Keep your eyes, mind and heart open, so you don’t miss them. As a keynote speaker, I apply those teachings to my work, and I soak up any blessings, especially from difficult experiences. I encourage you to do the same. It is how we grow.

If we don’t fail then refining becomes difficult! When you fail- get back your, dust off, and try again. Adjust, adapt and be willing to align with different measures as you grow. Just remember that growth can hurt- failure also can hurt. But when you arrive……you’ll be able to look back and be thankful for the failures.
