Don't dwell on the 'what ifs' or assign blame. Accept that the venture, in its current form, is not working. This doesn't mean you've failed, it just means it's time to adapt and try a new approach. Framing this as a learning experience can help you move forward with a positive mindset and avoid the emotional pitfalls of dwelling on negativity.

In both life and business, adversity is inevitable. It's through these challenges that we find opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Trusting the process means embracing setbacks as stepping stones to success. Each obstacle teaches valuable lessons, fostering resilience and innovation. By facing difficulties head-on, we develop new skills and insights, shaping us into stronger individuals. Embrace the journey, learn from setbacks, and trust in your ability to overcome. Almost all entrepreneurs will FAIL...but do you love the process more than the outcome...that's the sign of a successful entrepreneur. Accepting reality of failure means you have a front row seat to the best class you will ever take. By accepting failure you open yourself up to understanding "why" and this will enable you to be much stronger in your next venture. So when you fail, allow your self to throw a pity party for 48 hrs...cry it out...its good for you. Analyze the "whys" and write them down, be sure to keep the list handy for your next venture.

The root cause is a powerful key of knowledge - which gives the entrepreneur the understanding of what went wrong, what doesn’t work and its cause. This is a powerful recipe of things to be avoided or ways to prevent failure in future.

While the VAST majority of entrepreneurial pursuits end in "failure", there is really no such thing. How do I mean? The true entrepreneur does not fail. They simply learn from that experiences that they gain from each venture. And in so learning, we do not fail. The key is that, in our pursuit of opportunity, we lead well. We positively impact lives. We inspire others. And we learn how to do so more effectively in the next venture!

I've encountered a setback with a venture, and now it's crucial to delve into what went wrong, how I could have improved, and what remains salvageable. I'll engage with my peers, brainstorm ideas, and thoroughly assess the situation. By collaborating with others and gathering diverse perspectives, I can identify new opportunities and potential solutions. It's a time for reflection, adaptation, and determination to retrieve what's needed to soar to greater heights.

Don't just learn from your mistakes, but also from your successes. Identify what worked well and what could be improved. This will help you make even better decisions in the future. Furthermore, analyze why the venture failed. Was it a market problem, an execution issue, or something else? Understanding the root cause will help you avoid similar pitfalls in your next endeavor.

As mentioned in the previous section (just above this), when we learn from what has occurred, we do not ever actually fail. In the context of leadership, the most important lessons allow us to better serve our fellow-humans, and that will promote future successes!

I believe failure at some point or in some areas is almost inevitable. Utilizing past experience (and data) will help any entrepreneur to bounce back faster. That's why keeping accurate records of what you do is key, so you can look back and compare. This applies to business models, prices, costing, even job descriptions. You can't consciously improve what you don't measure or record.

It’s easy to either grovel in failure or ignore it—but the best approach is to LEARN from it, then move on. When my coffee importing company failed, I felt a lot of shame was had an impulse to spiral. However, wise counsel at the right moment showed me a better path. I spent the following year both analyzing where I had made mistakes (over optimism and too much leverage left us vulnerable) and identifying exactly how much of it was within my control. A lot of it was NOT in my control. Economy, banking, and specific choices by others. Knowing this clear delineation helped me be resilient and keep looking forward.

As any entrepreneur will share, resilience is not a mere optional aspect of starting a business--nor is it something that can be taken lightly in the context of leadership...put them together and it is an absolute necessity—assuming we would like to avoid a complete nervous breakdown! Having, building, and maintaining resilience is 100% necessary!

Through all the lessons I've learned, I've cultivated resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. I've discovered how to dust myself off and continue forward, understanding that these experiences shape me but don't define who I am. Managing stress, setting realistic expectations, and establishing solid foundations have become second nature. With these skills in my arsenal, I'm confident that I can navigate any challenges that come my way. I've got this.

Resiliency is hard because it may come with resentment. you may resent the industry, your partners, or even your own decisions. letting go of the past can be hard, even once you've learned from it. So being resilient is more than just Not Quitting.

The second thing to consider is joining support groups or peer-to-peer networks specifically for entrepreneurs who have experienced startup failures. These groups provide a safe and supportive environment where you can share experiences, seek advice, and receive emotional support from others who understand what you're going through. Your support system cannot support you until you ask and share.

One practical insight is to leverage your failure as a story of resilience and growth. Share your experience transparently with others, whether through networking events, speaking engagements, or social media. By openly discussing your setbacks and the lessons learned, you not only destigmatize failure but also position yourself as someone who has the tenacity to overcome challenges. This authenticity can attract support, mentorship, and even potential collaborators who admire your ability to bounce back stronger from adversity.

I very strongly believe, if your business fails, take time to understand why it didn't work out. Talk to people who can give you honest advice and learn from your mistakes. Don't blame others; instead, take responsibility for what happened....think about what you really want to achieve and adjust your plans if needed. Surround yourself with supportive people ( very important ) who can help you bounce back. Keep trying, keep learning, and don't give up.??

It’s so easy to say: “Oh you need to face reality.” “No point in dwelling on the past.” “Accept what’s happened and move on” “We learn more from our mistakes than from our successes “ I can stuff your throat with a whole bunch more. Most of them will have thruth in them. Yes, we do learn more from mistakes than from smooth sailing. However, if you set out on an entrepreneurial endeavor, you probably had high hopes. You probably worked really hard. Envisioned a great future. It’s a loss. I invite you to take some time to allow yourself to be sad, angry or any other feelings there are to be felt. A great many highly successful entrepreneurs have gone through failure before turning their fortunes around. The key - which many will already know - is to learn from one's mistakes. Analyse what went wrong (and indeed, on some occasions, things simply happen that are out of the control of an individual), and ensure that those mistakes are not made a second time. Importantly, one must have the confidence to continue to be creative and adventurous and undertand that failure can be a regular part of business and entrepreneurship. With sound planning, lesson-learning, perseverence and confidence, one should be on the right track for the next venture.

Practically, founders should not be too emotionally attached to their ideas and products. Be open to receive feedback on product market fit, performance, execution, quality and so on. If the product is not market fit, work towards making it one. Be flexible to the point where if need be, restructure and re-ideate everything. Ventures may fail but founders should not. They should come out as winners with great set of learnings and better strategy for next venture.
