What do you do if your enthusiasm for digital learning isn't coming across in interviews?

Before communicating it is important to spend time reflecting. You must be strategic in your moments of reflection. You should consider the following: 1. Why do you enjoy digital learning? 2. What strategies do you incorporate that ensure engagement? 3. How do you show up authentically? 4. How have learners experienced you? Once you have answered these for yourself, practice how you would communicate this in your interview and the materials that represents you. Your ability to be authentic in your interview will assist your panel in understanding what it is like learning with you. Ensure you are enthusiastic when speaking about the things you are passionate about. Practicing will help you get the nervousness out and perfect your response.

My perspective on this is, DON'T INTERVIEW for a position where you enthusiasm for that path is low. Only apply for jobs you have a passion for. If you can't put forth a total effort during a job interview, they will think you won't put much effort in the job.

Self-reflection is necessary to understand your beliefs and values regarding digital learning. As you dive deep into reflection, identify specific examples that demonstrate your excitement for digital learning. Consider talking with a trusted mentor prior to the interview who can offer feedback on your responses. Incorporate this feedback to elevate the quality of your responses as you prepare to interview.

Ensure you thoroughly research the company and its digital learning initiatives to align your enthusiasm with their goals. Practice expressing your passion and excitement for the field, emphasizing specific projects or experiences that fuel your enthusiasm. Use storytelling techniques to illustrate your dedication and vision for digital learning. Consider seeking feedback from mentors or peers on your interview performance and refine your communication style accordingly. Remember to stay authentic and genuine in showcasing your interview enthusiasm.

I am fully aware that in almost all situations the adoption of digital learning is restricted to the level of competency of the participants. Therefore, my conversation must acknowledge the concerns, disruption, and misconceptions that digital learning presents to those who have limited adoption of digital tools, products, or services. This empathy demonstrates that I am aware of the problems that they face when trying to implement digital tools that are constantly evolving. Digital learning is not a pie in the sky. It can be bumpy, confusing, and stressful for many. This is where the conversation must begin in order to transition the information into chunks of digital possibilities, communities of practice, and digital habitats.

Having concrete examples of what you follow and what you create can be included in a portfolio or website to showcase your enthusiasm and commitment. Keeping up with new technologies will show that you can be an asset.

I am constantly working to keep my digital learning portfolio up to date. I think it's important to share samples of what you're capable of because sometimes having those tangible examples speaks louder than anything you could say in an interview. Where I fail here though, is having a sort of universal space to share these items. I have several linked on my LinkedIn profile, but I really need to work on my portfolio website, because I think it would be simple to share as the need arises.

I always try to have a few solid examples of times when I connected learning targets to engaging student-focused projects, so that the learning is inherent in the outcome. Think facebook page, where students create posts, videos and other content that shows their learning and knowledge. All I have to do is show the facebook page and what unit of study we were working on.

In higher education, especially, online learning is here to stay! Most colleges and universities understand that distance education is vitally important to remaining relevant! Online learning can be effective if done well, and use of the internet breaks down barriers to serving wide populations of learners.

If you feel you are not coming across as a dynamic speaker, one thing I've found helpful is to prepare a few talking points ahead of the interview. Draft them first in a free flowing, conversational format. Spend time engaging with the talking points to authentically describe your experience. Then refine the talking points with precise and specific language that reflects enthusiasm and expertise. Read the talking points out loud several times. This is a simple exercise that works every time and prepares you to sound natural and confident about technology, digital learning or in fact, any topic.
