What do you do if your e-learning courses need improvement?

Interactive elements like quizzes, polls, or gamification features can also increase learner participation and knowledge retention.

Some of my improvements steps:- - Will ask someone from team to go for this course, after completion will talk to them about there knowledge Interms if topic. - Will add more user participation steps. - More knowledge driven questions will be added value here. - look for a video option, I feel sometimes this is very simple to transfer knowledge with videos specially for technology related courses. - Will talk to SME and collect best information as well as knowledge again after presenting my course.

In my experience being a quality analyst, when you load data reports you begin to see trends appearing of both a positive & negative perspective, this allows you to quickly know what parts of e-learning need updating or adapting, possibly even completely changing. Plus if you are in a business where there are constant changes, you need to regularly review the e-learning anyway to make sure it still highlights all that needs to be shared for the role.

If just like me you're not good at crunching figures, ask for help to better analyse data. It's such a pivotal part that you can't afford missing this step.

We should start with data, i.e.: - What is the problem this e-learning exists to address? - What metrics will show us the extent of this problem and the current trend? - Who is responsible for producing these results? - How much are they aware of the problem? - Who is holding them to account? Once we know this, we can seek feedback.

Let's face it - ALL courses need to be updated. Don't ever think something is ever done forever. You should at a minimum review each course on an annual basis. Policies, guidelines, links to references are things that can change and we forget to go back and update our courses.

Before updating content, it should be determined whether e-learning is still the most appropriate mode for the solution. Other factors include whether the right audience has been identified as well as when and where it would be most useful for them to engage and achieve their desired outcomes.

Ensuring your e-learning content remains current is paramount. Regularly review and refresh your course material to eliminate outdated information. Furthermore, assess the content's alignment with your audience's current needs and its real-world applicability. If specific sections consistently lag behind, consider revitalizing them with fresh examples, case studies, or multimedia elements to enrich the learning experience.

Updating content is not always time consuming. There are two ways you can update your content: 1), Updating the pedagogical approach. It's usually more tricky and requires A/B testing, so take your time, ask colleagues and proceed carefully. 2), Updating the core content. If we're talking about examples, business cases, it should not be too much time consuming. If we are talking about changing the curriculum content, you may need to ask permission before.

We prioritize updates based on impact and effort. Use a prioritization matrix such as quick wins (low effort, high impact), Content updates to plan strategically (high effort, high impact), Fill-ins (low effort, low impact), and Content to retire (high effort, low impact).

We demand technology that reduces time, facilitates processes and continues to entertain and surprise us. The success of an eLearning lies, among other aspects, in having an agile, intelligent and value-adding interactivity.

To further boost interactivity, consider integrating gamification elements like leaderboards, badges, and points to motivate learners through competition and achievement. Branching scenarios, where learners choose different paths that lead to various outcomes, can make the learning experience more dynamic and personalized. Additionally, incorporate tools that allow learners to annotate or manipulate on-screen content, enhancing their active participation. Live polls and group projects can also facilitate collaboration among learners, making the process more engaging and fostering a sense of community within the course.

It's not about "adding" interactivity. It's more about avoiding passive reading which is usually the enemy number one of online learning. However, this can vary depending on the learning style of your audience. Converging: If you lean towards solving problems and applying ideas to practical scenarios, this is your style. Diverging: This style is all about seeing the big picture and coming up with new ideas. Assimilating: If you prefer clear explanations rather than practical opportunity, and you love theory and abstract concepts, this is likely your dominant learning style. Accommodating: This style is for doers. If you prefer hands-on experiences and often rely on intuition rather than logic, this is your go-to learning style.

This is nonsense. Interactivity is not the key. The keys are: - A problem that is being keenly experienced by employees is identified and understood. - Data is used to understand the extent of the problem and the employees affecting. - A solution (in this case e-learning) is created and prototyped in order to directly and efficiently address the need) - Once the solution is getting the desired results it can be deployed at scale. - Remember, workers need guidance and support in order to work and achieve their work and career goals. Anything that prevents them from grabbing what they need easily and effectively is a distraction.

I think a small area that often gets overlooked when discussing interactivity is accesibility and how learners with physical or mental impediments often find it more difficult to interact with E-Learning content because of the way its constructed. A simple addition to any course for example that immediately improves engagement with and comprehension of the material (for any learner, not just those with disabilities) is adding a voice over track where the content of each slide/page/table etc. is read aloud. Allowing users to increase/decrease the text size or adding in colour blind options would also create more welcoming material.

An element of e-learning is only part of the solution so make sure you stay close to the data to determine what else might be required in order to increase effectiveness and address needs.

The original course was created during the era of Flash, and its content did not reflect the impact of the digital revolution on the global business environment. The first step was to add new content that captured the latest developments in management practices. I also created fresh videos, animations, and infographics to make the content more engaging and visually appealing. Next, I developed new assessments (interactive) and learning objectives to ensure that the course met the needs of modern learners. The result was a comprehensive and engaging e–learning course that reflected the realities of the digital age.

E-learning should always be fun and a mix of learning styles should be implemented. So not just reading with images (How to guides, flowcharts, diagrams) but also videos, quizzes and games. This helps with engagement on courses and keep learners focused. I find having freebies you can download/print off are always a winner too. Always gather feedback to help improve the e-learning experience.

Adding a "this might also interest you" list can be a good option to make your learners hungry for more! It is usually not so complicated to integrate.

Offer Flexible Learning Options: Recognize that not all students learn at the same pace. Providing recorded lectures or materials allows students to learn at their own speed. Introduce Contests or Challenges: Incorporating contests or challenges into the course can motivate students and increase their engagement. These activities can help reinforce learning objectives and boost clarity on complex topics. Encourage Application of Knowledge: Learning shouldn't stop after completing the course. Directing students on how to apply what they've learned in real-world scenarios helps solidify their understanding and ensures that they can put their newfound knowledge into practice effectively.

Content will never be perfect for everyone. Be careful not to pingpong between everyone's opinions and focus on what actually allows your learners to achieve the goals.
