What do you do if your design iterations are taking too long?

One thing I learned through the years is setting back and review the process and the project goals based on the main stakeholders and decisions makers in balance with the whole project delivery budget (design & construction), by doing so I normally identified the issues and avoid scope creep towards focus on delivering the whole project on time, sustainable and resilient, on budget and ease maintenance during the entire life cycle of the building. Also keep in mind that the building can be reprogrammed for a different use or user in a future in order to be sustainable (reusable) and environmental friendly.

Today (2024 and beyond) UX (user experience) should be the most valuable thing for getting a cohesive design product. Based on UX the design team will make it simple or complex according to the goals the design product or project will need to achieve.

I totally agreed BIM or any editable data should be starting from the beginning, but for instance our AEC industry illusions about federated 3D models by realizing the carbon footprint for Roundtrip flight b/w SF and NYC (1 passenger) is 1,984 lbs of CO2 equivalent, considering that maybe the same Carbon Footprint for avoid BIM CLASH DETECTION AI …..more the 75% of the time those models generate misinformation Buildings MEP, that disrupted the whole Design Intent, by still carrying conflicts or clashes, at the end don’t helping in coordination or phase schedules and doesn’t avoid overrunning cost during executions, bottom line how our AEC practices will be ethically energy-efficient and mitigate problems of bias.

In my professional opinion the lack of imagination and envisioning the real building is the issue, for example design team apparently in theory is capable design a drainage system and management the water, however few design team spend time in doing a physical model for testing the water behavior during rain or snow storms to see how the water flows through the building envelopes forms and massing shapes they will build in the real world (also son BIM software has been capable for years to do it virtually)…same thing for seismic events, or heat gain management from sun…so on, so forth, team collaboration without deep understanding the design problems is useless, today’s idea of virtual interaction doesn’t work without cleverness !
