What do you do if your design career faces a setback and you need to rebuild your personal brand online?

well i've certainly taken a hiatus from graphic design as i did face my own challenges professionally. I took long break before I transitioned to making my own content where i had to put my desired designs out there to convey my brand and story. I see the setback as a quick reminder that made me have my own personal brand

01: First Identify the mistakes by feedbacks and don't repeat them. 02: Use strategies that works for you before but also analyse the present market cause market changes everyday. 03: Find your "WHY". find why are you building the brand, what's the main motive behind it, See if your purpose align with any other successful brand and what methods they adopt for success. Follow them. 04: Create an element of uniqueness in your brand, maybe what you want to provide people out there provider same things with better quality and trust. Keep everything same but find one thing you will add that no one else will and it has to be something different or something which is not in trend but people need it.

If my design career faces a setback, I would first assess the situation to learn from it and refine my portfolio, focusing on my strongest work. I’d update my online presence, ensuring my website and social media reflect my skills and direction. Engaging with my network, I’d share insights and connect with industry peers to re-establish my expertise. Continuous learning, through courses or certifications, would keep me ahead in the field. By staying proactive, authentic, and resilient, I would rebuild my personal brand stronger than before.

After thinking about the problem you faced, if your portfolio is identified as the problem, the design presentation should be distinctive and pleasing to the eye. Therefore, try to deal with distinguished designers as you can learn from their methods and skills and see what you can implement. It is necessary to involve your mentor to benefit from his experience in this as he can provide valuable feedback and help you review it before publishing it. This ensures that it is appropriate and consistent with your current goals.

After gaining proper insights and reflecting on your setback, if your portfolio is identified as the issue, take the time to research how top designers ahead of you present their projects. You can learn from their approaches and see what you can implement in your portfolio. It's also wise to involve your mentor in this process; they can offer valuable feedback and help you with a portfolio review before you publish it. It's also a great idea to find and develop work that diversifies your portfolio showing growth and new abilities. Design is an innovative space, take the time to learn new approaches and find inspiration in the mundane.

So few years ago I also faced this when I had nothing new to show up as creative as I could do during the start ,it was a setback so what I did firstly was to purely focus on myself where I was laging as a graphic designer then I ignited my creative hunger again then I started sharing whatever I got to know which was useful for me and might be useful for fellow designers. It helped me to revive myself. here's what to do firstly: 1?? Refresh Your Portfolio: Highlight your best work and recent projects. 2?? Share Your Story: Be authentic about your journey and growth. 3?? Network: Reconnect and engage with the design community. 4?? Stay Consistent: Post regularly to rebuild visibility. A setback is a chance to redefine your brand! ??

With the ever changing scenario in fashion, it's not advisable to constantly chase new things. Instead hold onto your niche if that makes you happy and confident in the longer run. Find new sources of generating awareness and most importantly devote time to things you love. A strong portfolio is not only a reflection of your skills, but also an art of storytelling. If you hit the right audience and they connect with the ethos of your brand, you will always find a way to rebuild things.

Cannot emphasize enough on the importance of connecting with people on forums. That's the best way to build your personal brand and also get new opportunities.

This is very important. Just a small example these days is using AI to leverage / enhance your existing skills (in my case I am an Aspirational Car Designer and I use AI to enhance my work). Please don't conflate this with the outputs one might attain through "lazy prompting". Although, there's nothing wrong in getting inspired and adding those kind of outputs to your personal workflow.

Proporcionar valor a otros mejora tu visibilidad, también construyes una reputación positiva que puede ayudar a superar desafíos pasados y abrir nuevas puertas en tu carrera. Siempre mantenerse en una actitud positiva y enfocarse en la superación ya que no serás el primero y el último que pase por contratiempos, es una prueba para reinventarse.

By adding value to others you raise your profile and cultivate a good reputation that will help you get over obstacles in the past and pursue new opportunities in your career. Its a test to reinvent yourself so always be optimistic and concentrate on conquering because you wont be the first or last to experience setbacks.

I am a designer by some personal practice and "aspiration" and not by profession. However, the most important thing to note here is that the insights one has to share by innate experience or understanding is an invaluable asset and one should utilise this opportunity to network with the world at large and help the design community move forward as a whole. This maybe in form of writing blogs or actively critiquing the existing designs in a constructive manner or commenting on posts etc. Sharing is indeed caring as some of these insights maybe developed into future products which in itself is a reward (even though one may not receive personal accolades or monetary benefits).

First, it's important to see a crisis as something positive because crises make you better. It's like with children—falling down isn't the problem, staying down is. There's a saying: "Energy flows where attention goes." If something goes wrong in your design career, simply analyze what caused it. But don't dwell on it too long, and certainly don't become insecure or start doubting yourself. The world is full of opportunities, and sometimes these experiences are meant to guide you toward an even better path. As long as you stay optimistic, you'll always find something. However, you must take action—things don't just happen on their own.
