From experience, the intern needs to take the following steps: 1. Talk to your supervisor to give you a specific advice on areas that you need to work on. 2. Take communication skills courses 3. Practice your communication skills regularly 4. Get feedback from others, ask colleagues, friends or family members to give you feedback on your communication skills. 5. Lastly, be clear and concise, organized, self-confident and respectful even if you disagree with someone be polite and professional in your interactions.
