In my experience as a consultant, perception of your skills and value is such a funny thing and is fuelled by the effort you put into "advertising" what you have done. You may not feel confident about yourself but sometimes the key to success in this industry is being excited about what you have achieved, even if you think the thing you achieved is small and not that important. eg: "Hey team you've got to see this thing that I just put together... it beats eggs, and opens doors and fills out forms, the client is over the moon!"

So when something fails to work and you've been following instructions to the letter you know you've been following the wrong set of instructions.
