There's no magic bullet, but it's important to understand how your business is one pixel in the whole picture. In a competitive market, it's important to continually innovate to deliver additional value and to stay relevant. Clearly identifying your target customer and putting them at the center of your business is also key to ensure that your plans and messaging lines up.

No business is started with short-term goal or vision. All we need to do is stick to the long-term vision it was started with and just tweak and scale as and when one feels right while keeping in mind the situation of the business. Also, one need to keep in mind all factors while goal-setting eg- external, environmental, legal, internal etc. A business which fails to set realistic goals will ultimately fail without a doubt.

If there is a stagnation in our business, it is the right time to ask questions. Is our goal realistic? Is our way to reach the goal realistic? Do we have alternatives? What are the efforts to make a change? Does it even make any sense? Stagnation is a signal that either the market is saturated and our goals were not realistic, or we are making a mistake. In every case, the situation need to be reviewed are re-defined.

When identifying goals I personally always use SMART: S- Specific M- Measurable A- Achievable R- Relevant T- Time-bound Create a statement that summarizes the above and also aligns with your business goals. Evaluate if this is what you were doing before or how deviated you were from this goal statement.

- Long-term Vision: Clarify where you want your business to be in the next 5 to 10 years, including market position, revenue targets, and product offerings. - Short-term Objectives: Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives that will help you progress towards your long-term vision. - Strategic Priorities: Identify key areas that need immediate attention and resources to achieve your goals. - Stakeholder Alignment: Ensure that your team, investors, and other stakeholders understand and support your goals.

Stagnation of our project is an indication of either our mistake in the planning phase, or market change. In any case, it is important to review the strategy. We need to adapt to the new situation and this requires various changes to be done. We can′t forget about our stakeholders. They all will be affected and the strategy needs to be well communicated with them as well. Yes, it is an extra work, but stagnation of a project shouldn′t be something, what keeps you calm.

As a Business Development professional, you ideally have clear goals. However, setting goals is a crucial first step, but determining the best path to achieve them can be even more challenging. This is where strategy, tactics, and action plans come into play. Many get stuck at the outset, unsure of where to begin. Based on the assessment you have done, you know your problems and you know your goals, now it's the time to connect the dots. BE SMART

?? Conduct a comprehensive SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. ?? Set clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with your long-term vision. ?? Continuously review and adjust strategies based on market dynamics and customer feedback. ?? If your goal and your previous actions were aligned with each other, that means it is not an effective strategy. Like they say you can't have a different outcome by doing the same things again. Your strategy should involve learning from the analysis of SWOT, financials, competition, business gaps, market gaps, etc. Develop a new strategy that might work or reach out to a strategic specialist or a consultant who can look into your strategy and provide a new eye to your plans. Sometimes planning an algorithm or flow charts can help you have a big picture which can help you identify the gaps in your strategy.

Strategies needs to be developed on the basis of: 1. Where you are? 2. Where you aim to be? 3. What are your current and possible resources? The only lesson I have learnt by observing businesses which did not make it was, they were hypothetical and so were their strategies. Eg- you cannot invest 1 million dollar into marketing thinking that someday your product will be viral. One need to strategize by splitting equal amounts into production, marketing and other expenses. A great product can fall prey to poor execution & Strategies.

In one of the TED talks, I learned it is highly important to celebrate small wins. Every time you achieve any milestone, celebrate. It could be getting anything for yourself or doing something nice for your workers who worked hard for the execution of your strategy. Always make sure to create a log book of your actions that didn't work well/ or your failures. This will help you identify if you are making the same mistakes from the past.

Once the stagnation of the project has been determined, reviewed, re-planed and communicated with the relevant stakeholders, it is important to execute the plan. We follow exactly the same way as when we launch a completely new business development project. Execution is a subject of maintaining all the relevant performance indicators, and monitoring the progress. And remember - don′t forget about your feedbacking culture. Re-shaping a project, and doing it one more time might catch the people a bit disoriented, demotivated and tired. It is even more important to stimulate the feedback mindset in order to avoid frictions and boost the performance.

The results need to be watched in any case. Fighting against stagnation, and re-shaping of the project gives us useful tool of comparison. We are able to compare the results and metrics against the original project progress and evaluate the differences. The path from stagnation to the growth might not always be easy, but it is very important to permanently analyze the progress and making sure that the project is not heading towards another dead-lock.

To get you to another day sometimes that is all you need to regain focus to achieve your goals. Also assess your goals and ask are these goals achievable to keep giving encouragement to go on. Just don't give up because anything worth doing takes time to come together and perseverance.

There's a finite amount of customers out there, and the simple truth is that not all companies have the ability to grow. If you've looked at every possible angle to improve, and suspect that there just isn't the extra demand in your service or product to support growth, then it may be time to pivot or add extra product lines. Try to find industry-adjacent offerings you can provide. This will allow you to build upon the hard work you've already done to create a presence in your sector.

There is a fine balance between perseverance (one of the most valuable business skills) and altering the course if the original goals are felt to be unachievable.... you can only make decisions based on the information you have available and no-one knows the future..... always be confident you have made the correct (fully considered) decision at the time, and back yourself to achieve it with full force...

I believe sustainable growth comes from the coordinated efforts of the following; Branding, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations and Business Development. These initiatives will drive sales - the assumption here is that you are bringing a viable product or service to market. Some questions you might ask yourself: Are the efforts above recognizable and delivering a measurable outcome? Are you communicating the right message to your target clients? What is your reputation and culture? How do you compare to your competitors? Can you adopt a “blue water strategy”? For Business Development specifically: Are you building trusted relationships that will pay dividends for the investment? All above drives continued and sustainable sales.

The only 'growth' that will bring revenue IN to the business will come from sales. To get more sales there may be several things you can do. Can you create and develop a new market? Can you add a product / service to your offering? Would it make sense to delete that product / service that is not selling well? Is your sales team poor at creating value? Do they find it difficult to differentiate your company's services / products from that of your competitors? Are they finding it a big problem to get sat in front of new prospects? Are they bereft of new ideas? If you've answered 'Yes' to any of the last 4 questions, maybe some sales training and or coaching would be an excellent investment in order to get the growth you desire.

I always suggest networking and making new connections with new entrepreneurs. Sometimes you learn new things that might be beneficial for your business to have or collaboration with new minds can help your business grow exponentially. Caution: Make sure you don't deviate from your goals, vision, and mission statements.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this. Always make sure that you are doing things better than the competition or your role models - better quality, better products, better customer service, better pricing, better absolutely everything... You'll realise that you must succeed if you are better at everything.... it will all add up to a better business...
