Divergent thinking is quite hard to do, and mostly, to keep. Our brains have a natural tendency to seek for solutions (convergence) and do not handle divergence pretty well. So it's quite common that a divergent session starts to converge way before the right time. Therefore, to help your divergent sessions, I strongly suggest an experient facilitator to keep the team in divergence until the appropriate moment. And, please, don't do collective brainstorming during divergence: it will kill divergence. Use individual (and silent) ideas collection instead.
