What do you do if your boss in the travel and tourism sector disagrees with your decisions?

I don’t think it’s any different from other sectors. Obviously, relationships play a key part in the way you communicate with your boss. If you have a relationship and understanding, based on mutual respect, you’re able to share your view and ask for support. You can always agree to disagree but at no cost to this professional relationship. If on the contrary neither of you feel there is a relationship in place, there aren’t many options but either to succumb to your leader’s instructions or to leave.

If you are confident that your ideas or initiatives or thoughts are going to help your organisation and your customers but your BOSS is not able to see the same , then even though it is frustrating, represent the same to them as you would to a leader than to a BOSS . Include him in your initiatives and draw the vision board for better clarity.

Everyday we learn. Travel is forever changing, with this we also have to change our processes. Change the process if it does not work you can always change back, but at least you can say you tried.

In such a case, I would back my argument with statistics, numbers, projections and thoroughly evaluated project plan that would support my ask/requirement

It's important to approach the situation with professionalism and open communication. You can calmly explain your own rationale for the decisions you made.

Whenever a No is said. We should be bold enough to calm the situation with evidence that has worked earlier with better results always acclaimed with you point that has been rejected as no.

If my boss in my company disagreed with my decision, I would definitely call a meeting to have a logical discussion. I don't believe in emails and one can't have an face to face discussion but a either a personal meeting or Skype call would be preferable. Not everyone's opinion is right !

Whenever a NO comes in front we should be smart and experienced to tackle a NO, with a perfect alternative that's more advisable and useful and better than the previous one. So that a refusal can be a showcase that you are experienced to acknowledge a alternative.

In my experience, we should respect the decisions of our superiors as they are more experienced mentors, sometimes you may disagree with their decisions but if you analyze the circumstances you see their decisions are based on experience and they always guide you to see the long term. Decisions based on experience are always tested against time.

5-Propose Alternatives: If your boss remains unconvinced, propose alternative solutions. Show flexibility and a willingness to find common ground. Perhaps there’s a middle ground that both of you can agree upon.

6-Involve Others: If necessary, involve other team members or colleagues. Seek their input or gather additional perspectives. Sometimes a collective decision-making process can lead to better outcomes.

The described scenario taken on a basic face-value basis-there likely are a complex of variables governing the situation; 1. Is your idea as good as you think it is. 2. Is the existing operation “choking” and losing money due to inefficiencies? If yes.. then provide a clear analysis of existing factors contributing or causing inefficiencies and possible losses or at the very least less profit than achievable.. Present that analysis first ….(you likely hear the question “What would you do to improve it?!” - That would be the “Invitation” that paves the way for you to introduce your thoughts/ideas/concept for improvement of the operation and hopefully it’s “Bottom-Line!”

7-Document Everything: Keep a record of your discussions, including emails or meeting minutes. This documentation can be helpful if the disagreement escalates or if you need to revisit the issue later. **Remember that disagreements are part of professional life, and handling them constructively demonstrates maturity and professionalism. Ultimately, focus on finding solutions that benefit the organization and maintain a positive working relationship with your Boss.
