What do you do if your boss in Quality Assurance disagrees with your approach?

One thing to understand is that disagreements are not always a bad sign in any office. We should be open to understand other’s perspectives (even if he / she is not a boss). Understanding others perspectives brings clarity and mutual trust and be courageous too to put forth your understanding and basis behind that. Constructive discussions bring good outcomes which may or may not be in your favour but it brings clarity how the decision is made.

Disagreements with your boss can happen, especially when it comes to finding the best way to ensure quality. If your QA boss doesn't agree with your testing approach, the first step is to listen carefully to their perspective. Ask them to explain their concerns and what aspects of your approach they'd like to see addressed. This shows you're respectful of their opinion and helps you understand their reasoning.

One thing I've found helpful during any dis agreement with the boss no matter what is the function involved whether it's quality,operations,Etc. is listen and understand first what voice or perspective does your boss is coming from. If he/she is coming from "voice of the customer" where your boss is leaning too much to customer, then adjust and revisit your proposal to match where your boss is coming from. If your boss is coming from "voice of the business" where he/she demand so much in cutting costs, again, re-visit your proposal to contribute on his/her goal. Finally, if your boss is too much grounded on procedures( "voice of process"), then adjust as well. After all, we need to submit to them once we rationalized our selves.

There are quite challenging times when disagreement often happens within teams, however when its between your own boss, it has to be figured out soon. 1. first foremost, be into a honest discussion, hear out each others POV before jumping on anything 2. based on the discussion outcome. keep a record of the points which needs more clarity. 3.either we accept the best industry standard solutions on those disagreeable approach OR find a middle way which can help to keep the ball rolling prefer to have a process guideline used in your organization. 4.Ensure this gets approval from everyone within and outside the team. so no one is blamed later on the outcome. 5.above all, be positive and have a healthy relation with Boss :)

Cuando surgen desacuerdos con respecto a un enfoque específico dentro del equipo de Control de Calidad, considero fundamental abordar la situación con profesionalismo y colaboración. En primer lugar, escucho atentamente las preocupaciones y puntos de vista de mi jefe de Control de Calidad, buscando comprender completamente su perspectiva. Luego, comunico claramente mi enfoque, respaldándolo con datos y ejemplos relevantes para explicar las razones detrás de mis decisiones. Lo más importante es trabajar en colaboración para encontrar la mejor solución que garantice la calidad del trabajo, manteniendo siempre la integridad en el equipo.

In QA, it's critical to communicate concerns to your supervisor in order to preserve the integrity of the project. In addition to closing knowledge gaps, this technique promotes open communication and ongoing development. By having these kinds of conversations, QA specialists may improve their tactics and make sure they meet quality standards and organizational objectives. This strategy is an excellent example of the proactive problem-solving mentality that is crucial in the QA industry.

Best way is to clarify the concerned, discuss with details of concern shared the observation, listen the concerned and solve the problem.

Respectfully show the benefits of using your methodology, trying to highlight how easy it is to use and show the practical uses of the information generated by your method. With a good presentation with alternatives, evidences and compromise, you may have enough attention to pass your idea to the next level. But if, after showing your double report, non-logical reasoning continues, keep the moment in your memory and work under the guidelines that your boss asks for. As I repeat, pay close attention to the signs. Don't let a refusal stop you.

Listen to ur boss first and try to solve ur problem ,technically,and find a proper solution for his disagreement. Observe Q.A norms and customer satisfaction

Get it first. But get it right first. ? Gather facts, but acknowledge boss's potential access to more information. ? Share your point of view with trusted colleagues. ? Use data, charts, spreadsheets, and other hard evidence to support your argument. ? Avoid hypotheticals and anecdotes.

? Allow adaptability and opinions to evolve in response to new facts. ? Acknowledge disagreements when necessary, even if you believe their approach isn't the best. ? Familiarize yourself with relevant history, metrics, or stakes before entering meetings or projects. ? If necessary, gather research before confidently sharing views. ? Show support for your manager's decision after your idea is rejected. ? Remember that the ultimate goal is the improvement of your product.

Presenting alternative solutions shows your flexibility and willingness to find the best path forward. Start by respectfully acknowledging your boss's concerns and then propose your alternative ideas. Explain the benefits of each alternative and how they address the issue at hand. Be open to feedback and willing to discuss further to find a solution that aligns with both your goals and your boss's expectations.

Remember, you both share a common goal: delivering a high-quality product. After you've listened to each other, see if there's a way to find common ground. Be open to making adjustments to your approach based on your boss's feedback. You might be able to find a compromise that incorporates their concerns while still achieving your testing objectives.

Demonstrate Flexibility: Flexibility is crucial when navigating disagreements with your QA boss. By demonstrating flexibility, you show your boss that you are willing to consider different perspectives and adjust your approach accordingly. This doesn't mean abandoning your principles or compromising on quality standards, but rather being adaptable and willing to explore alternative solutions that may better align with your boss's preferences or priorities. Flexibility fosters collaboration and constructive dialogue, ultimately leading to more effective problem-solving and decision-making processes within the QA team.

I absolutely agree on the points highlighted but in addition to those, we have to consider that the person who refuse to accept your idea is your direct manager. Depending on which country you are, what culture your in, or the behavior of your direct manager, most of the time a manager is on authority person sometimes does not like to be contradict. Allowing his idea to run is not bad at all and once opportunity comes because the outcome of the manager's idea is not ideal, you can throw your ideas as an option to try. Doing it make life easier.

I will try to understand his concerns and resolve them. If I failed, I will follow him as at the end only one boss must drive.

Be technical and show this. You should always demonstrate that your position is only due to technical reasons, prove it, and showcase things in a polite and ethical way. Always!
