But if it doesn't and your current boss is getting in the way of your goals – get out of there. It's time to find a new job and boss. Get rid of that toxicity. Having a job is amazing but having your dreams belittled is not worth the trade-off.

Although common thought would be to leave, coming from someone who did just that, in retrospect, I would have stayed to see how I could leverage my position as a thought leader in other aspects or areas of the business. Social media has so many touch points and influences so many aspects of businesses. As a result, one can find value outside of their immediate work environment. Building those relationships can further your reputation as a thought leader in social media management and help you establish networks both within and outside of your company. The key is not only to have your immediate leadership recognize your value but also to have more influential individuals acknowledge your worth.

A bad or unsupportive boss is an opportunity for you to learn exactly the type of manager that you don’t want to be… You learn as much from a bad boss as you do from a good one if you pay attention but at the end of the day if your boss is truly stopping your progression. The answer is easy… LEAVE!!! Go find a boss, culture or job where you will be supported.
