What do you do if your boss doesn't recognize your value and contributions in an Economics career?

We need to first self reflect and try to understand why my boss is not valuing me or recognising my contribution. Many a times we may not realise the deficiencies in us, so it is best to show the mirror inwards. If we do not see any major deficiencies in ourself, it is advisable to have a frank conversation with the Manager to let him first know what you feel and then ask his feedback as to why he doesnt value your contributions. Also ask him to specify in measureable terms the gaps in expectation & delivery. Also get an agreement of what success looks like and then start working in that direction.

Many a times we may do good work but will go unnoticed. That is why we need to ensure that we build a strong personal brand and more importantly showcase our strengths to our stake holders. Compensation is always a tricky issue. No one is fully satisfied with the Rewards that organisations dole out through their managers. We need to take into consideration the economic situation of the company, the market conditions, market pay and our own performance in terms of what value we have added to the team and companies performance. If we are above 80% Compa Ratio (Market Pay), then we have less to complain about. If we have performed above expectations, then we can bargain for higher compensation. We must look at Compensation in totality. Total Cost to Company which includes Base Pay, Variable Pay, Perks, Stock Options and other welfare measures to be fair to the company.
