We tend to get triggered when our weaknesses are being discussed and dissected. We feel threatened in our identity and that can make us emotionally overwhelmed. We feel attacked almost like a physical attack and it makes it difficult for us to pause and not defend outselves. People with a secure sense of self are able to listen fully without getting triggered as their self worth is not dependent on their real flaws or what people say about them.
