1 Understand MI

To communicate without physical presence and body language read, it is imperative to implore MI when communicating with your boss. Use a subtle expression that won't be misunderstood at the other side. Practice reflective communication, active listening, reaffirmation as well. This will help you to understand your boss's view point and understand what response is demanded of you.

What do you do if your boss and you can't see eye to eye? 1. Quit 2. Pistols at 10 paces (just saw Hamilton) 3. Wear the "I'm with Stupid" T-shirt but do it ironically 4. Learn how to communicate. If you believe you have a better point of view and that your point of view will positively affect the company, think about how you are failing at communicating this with the boss. Revamp and do better 5. go to your basement retreat and drink beer, watch video games and eat Cheetos

1) Obviously "eye to eye" is nebulous. You must get right down to the real nitty gritty of what are the sources of conflict and openly address them. 2) Is it a personality issue or a basic divergence of goals and objectives or strategies to meet those? 3) You might need to examine whether or not this is the place that can feed your passion-a hard decision indeed! 4) There might be a middle ground to agree on. 5) A good boss hire someone who can take the ball and run with it and then does not need to micro-manage.

If I approach my boss, who has reservations about me, openly and with interest, using the language of Carl Rogers, I increase my chances of finding access to him. The fact that I use my language to engage with his emotional state signals to him, as well as to everyone else, that I have no attacks in mind.

Navigating disagreements with my boss was challenging, but I found a path forward by taking a step back. I chose to give myself and my boss, grace. I realized the importance of addressing the issue from a place of understanding and empathy. Recognizing the value of outside perspective, I reached out to a friend who is an organizational psychologist for coaching. Additionally, I leveraged personality assessments, comparing my results with my boss’s, and researched how our differences could be leveraged for better understanding and collaboration. I put a plan in place to bridge the gap between us. In the end, it took time, and this approach not only resolved our differences, but also strengthened our working relationship.
