Change is the only constant in life . a challenge career wise helps one to adapt to the evolving circumstances . Embrace technological change , upgrade , adapt , adopt and stay positive . Flexibility is key and the ability of the mind is infinite . Rather than look at it as uncertainty , its important to see this as an opportunity . Crises can bring the best out of people with self belief and conviction .

The beauty of aviation is there is work somewhere. If you take that point of view when change comes you can adapt much easier. I have been through four airline mergers, numerous reduction I manpower and was able to survive all of it. As an instructor I taught the future technicians to always be ready for the change expect it and don't fear change.

Understand that you are alone in your career. Meaning, that despite the best intentions and support from the best colleagues, it is human nature to promote oneself ahead of all others in obtaining an advancing role in the business. One time at work I was faced with the option of leaving the line maintenance environment to manage projects in the airline HQ or staying on the line where my hard earned licences were valuable. I took the risk, left my comfort zone and picked up new skills. I've never looked back. Aviation is an enormous industry to explore and enjoy.

Aviation is a very small industry where we all bump into each other. Therefore, maintaining cordial relations with colleagues, internal and external customers, stakeholders, etc can be very useful during such tough times. Also, one should have a side hustle to keep the money flowing in. We should keep learning new things, upskill, and stay relevant in this fast-paced world. We must also come out of our comfort zone and explore new opportunities presented to us in the aviation industry. The more we gain experience in various departments in aviation, the higher will be our value in the job market. We need to embrace versatility. Reading self-improvement books can help us a great deal to enhance our interpersonal and other relevant skills.

In preparation for change and uncertainty in their aviation career, individuals should embrace adaptability and continuously develop alternate skills, such as project management, data analysis, or communication, to remain competitive and resilient in the ever-evolving industry landscape.

Add some training like Lean or Carnegie Communication, just to interface with some “normal people” from other industries. Upgrade your skills as a technician such as adding an Inspection Authorization, or FCC Radio Repair certification. Not that you may immediately use these skills but that you will learn things outside of your wheelhouse.

I am a firm believer that in aviation, things are happening rapidly. Technology is evolving day by day. Staying updated at the edge is all the more important. There could be multitude of options and avenues that could help you grow as professional even if things in your surrounding seem stagnant. Self learning is highly recommended and rewarding. You can’t grow if you don’t want to. Seminars, conferences,Workshops, webinars give you exposure to grow as professionals. Senior managers, directors and CEOs must realise the fact that training are very important for individuals. These activities help people upgrade their skills and people become more contributing toward organisational goals. Learning is therefore important for self improvement.

Sometimes these feelings are overwhelming but change always comes inevetiably. Dealing with change is something we should learn as professionals, either to be able to make way for new blood or to take charge of situations we feel we still have time to make meaningful contributions to. A lot of people continue to fight change by monopolizing experience, knowledge, skills and training yet they could use all these elements to help change take place meanjngfully. Sometimes we cant control the type of change that comes but we can control how we adapt the environment to the change

One of the most important skills to have now in our current environment, is to be adaptable. It's crucial, to adapt to new situation,processes and environment as quickly as possible. Keep on upgrading yourself with knowledge on other divisions in Aviation. If you are in aircraft maintenance, try to learn about Leasing or asset management or data analysis or even parts trading. The possibilities are endless. Remember, nothing lasts forever, good time or bad.

Be courageous and explore your entrepreneurial abilities and start something of your own. It could be in Aviation or an entirely different field. The options are limitless. Or Pursue your passion if you had no time to devote during your employment.
