Innovation and creativity can come from anywhere, within or outside of organisation. Typically lack of understanding on customer requirements and also lack of execution skills in the organisation kills innovation. Encourage people to do different things or think differently, helping people to work in teams, appreciate slightest change and build enthusiasm to roll out may accelerate innovation process.

In my opinon to assess innovation and creativity deficits in my plant microbiology agribusiness, I would scrutinize research outputs for repetitive patterns and limited breakthroughs. I'd evaluate team dynamics, looking for reduced collaboration and engagement. Additionally, examining industry trends and benchmarking against competitors would provide insights into relative innovation levels. Surveys or workshops with staff could reveal any dissatisfaction or monotony in daily tasks. A critical self-evaluation of recent projects' novelty and impact would be crucial in identifying areas where rejuvenation and fresh perspectives are needed to foster innovation and creativity within the agribusiness.

Higher business growth aspirations in shorter time frame may be counterproductive for innovation culture sometimes. Benchmark your business need for innovations vs peer businesses and where would you like to place yours.

The goals to be achieved by your Agribusiness should meet up with SMART goals which translates to Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. When they tick all these boxes, you are on the right path to achieving success with your team.

I would start by setting vague and unrealistic goals! If you want to truly innovate then you have to go after big, difficult problems. Those are the ones that really motivate people. Imagine if we used no fossil fuels? If pesticides were all non toxic to non target organisms. If all fertilisers had 100% NUE? If no yield was lost to stress? These are exciting goals, and are the ones as an industry we should be aiming at. Allowed teams to try 'out there' ideas. Big shifts are rarely incremental, but there are always risks and failures on the road. Behind these Big, vague goals then come the clear ones. Once you have projects they can be split down into clear chunks with timeframes. Never forget the big picture though.

Accurate and reliable data is everything. Assumptions are very much clouded by our own bias. Data is key to challenge your assumptions, prevent wasting too much resource on the wrong choice, and to validate if your strategy is working.

One thing that's truely helpful for resource/support optimization is recruiting the key talent and creating an inclusive environment where talent, hardwork and intent is closely observed and rewarded. Rest can be left to the team to plan and propose.

Diversity and inclusion is key when; selecting the team of innovators, as each individual has different capacity and weakness, and also the strategic plans produced by the team should also have the diversity and inclusiveness.

The only constant in life is change.. Either you grow or you die. Create a culture that celebrates change , efficiency, and enable and empower your staff to ….do better..

To think outside of the box, you have to get out of it. Innovation requires to seek inspiration from different industries, that have already evolved into something else. So if you want to change something in the Agribusiness, go see how something else was changed in a completely different industry and then relate to it. Industries vary in many ways, but the way to change them doesn′t: you have to shake the status quo.

Innovation comes from blending, bending and distorting the status quo. When we critically asses something deep enough we may unlock those rare moments when we can create something truly disruptive, unconventional or something that has a robust future.

In addition, I found a visit to markets where your product and the competitors products are sold to observe and talk to customers. New ideas such as wording on labels (sun ripened, handpicked and hand packaged) could make a difference. Look also at pricing and assess if the changes will price you out of the market or there is room to absorb the additional cost. Be unique in your innovations where possible.

In this case, I think the first thing to do is first of all to upgrade compared to others, in this case 'cheating' would not be a bad thing. So, one thing leading to another, the innovative ideas would come on their own as and when, or at worst, it is simply necessary to copy on the competitors considered more advanced and creative.
