What do you do if your advertising internship experience is not meeting your expectations?

I talk to my supervisor to understand the gap. Getting feedback and clarifying my goals is key. I also take on relevant projects and responsibilities to align with my interests. Exploring other opportunities within or outside the company helps gain the desired experience.

I agree. My first internship was at VeloNews magazine. I loved it. ?? That said, was it what I expected? No. Did I have to do things I didn’t want to do? Of course- I was the intern. My worst task by far, was cold calling local bike shop managers to ask them survey questions about a protein bar. It was hard. The managers were busy and didn’t have time or want to answer my questions. But not one manager ever hung up on me; and sometimes we’d even end up laughing as we made our way through the survey together. There are going to be aspects of any internship that you didn’t anticipate or enjoy. I remembered working at an ad agency that they had brought in a group of interns during in the summer. They were from different universities and had an open-mind about learning about how the workplace actually works and what it was like to work at an ad agency. During their time there, they had rotations doing client services, project management, media buying, and strategy. However, they were largely shaken when the agency had to suddenly do mass layoffs due to losing a major client. It was also more complicated when the senior management forgot to layoff enough employees on Friday so they proceeded with laying off the rest the following Monday. In the end only 2 interns kept working in advertising while the rest went into other fields.

Based on that, alter your path which will be beneficial in long run.
