The thing I've done is take training courses (online / on-prem). This little action took me where I am now... My current employer likes me because I didn't stay on my current knowledge ... I did learn something new on my free time... "Never stop learning" that's the key to success

There are several things which can help after a layoff to get back into system administration. 1. review your current skills and figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. 2. take your lists of strengths and see if they are things which can be used at other places. Also figure out how to better explain them on a resume. 3. take your lists of weaknesses and see how you can improve on them. This may be courses or setting up your own systems to work through things. 4. Look at any people skills which may need to be added or improved. These are more crucial than we realize. 6. When updating resumes, remember to go over any budget and presentations you did as this is also an overlooked sysadmin skill.

La mise à jour/à niveau continuelle est un atout majeur pour l'administrateur système cela va permettre une efficacité accrue dans le déroulement des travaux quotidiens et une optimalité dans la résolution des dysfonctionnements et problèmes intrinsèques si vicieux soient-ils. L'utilisation entre autre de nouveaux utilitaires applicatifs performants pour les opérations de sauvegarde/ restauration et en général la maintenance préventive est fortement souhaitable. L'administrateur système doit impérativement suivre les changements de l'eco-systeme informatique pour ne pas se sentir "obsolète" comme le sont nos machines tournantes toujours sur des systèmes d'exploitation parfois delaissés par leur constructeurs mais toujours fonctionnels.... .

A layoff is a good time for self examination and determination of your skills and work ethic. It’s cruel but good Systems Administrators usually are the last people to get laid off. An organization can survive with a few less bureaucrats, but it can’t survive without its systems. There are a lot of reasons for layoffs, so it is possible that the personnel decisions were made by folks without understanding that without SAs the systems will likely fail. But sometimes layoffs are excuses to purge poor performers without having to build a case. So, you need to look at yourself. If you were part of a team, what skills are you lacking that teammates had? Are you people skills lacking? Look close. It’s tough, but do it and find the answers

Ya no es suficiente con solo ser "sysadmin" o "developer". Además es importante tener en mente que el juego en equipo hoy día es imprescindible como parte de nuestra cultura.
