The other ways are much harder and require applying OSSTMM stuff like hardening systems, asset owner segmentation, op controls for defense in width, bastion hosts for services, jump points for remote sec, and service windows for remote workers. But that's just a lot of work and although it prepares you for future threats you don't get a DeLorean.
