A greatly underrated soft skill is your ability to manage time effectively. It can truly be a game changer, when providing time estimates to more senior developers, they already know it's going to take more time than it would if they did the job. So no matter what, don't over-promise and under-deliver. A great benefit to enhancing my soft skills has been to put myself out of my comfort zone regularly. I didn't enjoy presenting my work or speaking up to challenge the way things are done, but the only way to get better at this is by consistently putting myself in those kinds of situations. For entry level, it’s important to be a fly on the wall for discussions among higher level engineers when possible. You’ll not only learn something, but realize advancing to the next level is more than just the code in your editor. The business problem has to be thought through, solutioned and translated into to workable tickets. The more you immerse yourself in that process, the better you will understand the code you are writing and the business problems you are trying to solve. Once the skill level is up, a good mentorship program should provide the opportunity for entry level devs to drive a small project so they get that real world experience.

Find the most challenging problem you can -- if possible one no one else wants to work on. Develop the rare and valuable skill set to solve it at scale. Rinse and repeat every few months or years with interviewing seasons of learning, so you can continue to do this with progressively more challenging technology. Invest early and often so you can exit the rat race ideally by age 50.

Most entry-level developers only know what they were taught in school. Understand that the real world has little to do with what you were taught. So my first suggestion would be to listen. The second recommendation would be to ask questions. Nobody expects you to know anything other than the basics, so asking questions is really the best way to get you up-to-speed quickly. Don't be afraid that you will look stupid. Don't be afraid to think that your peers will think less of you. Don't be afraid that they'll fire you. You were hired for a reason; they knew you were an entry-level developer when they hired you. If you learn one thing from this suggestion, it should be to ask questions.

Never assume the way things are implemented is 100% correct. If you think something can be improved, challenge it. The worst that can happen is that you learn exactly why something is implemented the way it is.

This approach demonstrates curiosity, honesty, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Do beyond what is expected of you. if you are just graduating, then having projects that you have worked in your own time not related to any of your course expectations. If you have already have a job then spending some of your own time improving your expertise on concepts that are new or challenging.

Learn, early in your career to think out of the box by: - trying to find the root cause - understand the big picture - talk to others to get a diffrent perspective Then understand if you can implement the best solution, or you need to colaborate, or the better solution should be in "another domain", e.g. in hardware. If you are in doubt elaborate these options to the architect/manager/senior tech. staff. But don't just go and ask, provide options and your reasoning.
