I have created my own presets that I use. Using presets lets me get a uniform look across all my photos. After applying the preset I go through each photo and make minor adjustments to make sure the photos are exposed and white balanced properly.

I started in photography over sixty years ago. Shooting black and white gave a little room to edit the image in the dark room, with color there was no chance. You got it in the camera or through it in the trash. I still shoot that way with some changes. I have some customized presets in the cameras which reduces editing, if I feel the image needs any. In general I don't have to spend more then 30 seconds editing an image. You still need to know lighting, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, and the rest of the factors that go into shooting a good image.

When I cull through my images, I put a 1 star next to ones I like, then after going through them, I go through once more and add 2 star to the best one out the bunch to ensure I got the ‘moment’; then I put a preset and adjust as necessary!

I always overshoot anything I take shots of because I delete pics like I eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. My focus is only on good quality shots and you have to punt ego and be ruthlessly honest with yourself during the editing process. I don't deal in big batches of shots so I "hand edit" every single shot in Lightroom/Photoshop. That means I have the time to really look hard at anything I've shot. Just remember one thing - we'll will be gone one day but these shots will last awhile. Just be like Freddy Krueger and slash whatever doesn't work for you.
