What do you do if you want to showcase your algorithmic thinking skills in an interview?

Showcasing algorithmic thinking skills in an interview requires preparation,clarity and effective communication -Understand the problem statement carefully before proceeding -Ask questions about problem constraint, input/output format,edge cases and other requirements -Explain your thought process, outline the steps you plan to take and consider alternative strategies -Analyze time and space complexity of proposed solution -Write clean,readable and modular code that reflects your algorithmic thinking -After coding your solution, test it with sample inputs -Discuss potential optimization for the solutions -Clearly articulate your thought process,explain your reasoning behind each decision and justify your approach -Practice Mock Interviews.

This is often true that people don't value "Brush up" the basics. Chances are there in real interview setting, the candidate might forget very easy things just because they haven't brushed up the basic well.

Data Structures: Arrays (fast access, fixed size) Linked Lists (flexible insertions/deletions) Trees (sorted data, hierarchical relationships) Algorithms to Know: Sorting: Quicksort (efficient), Mergesort (stable) Search: Binary Search (works on sorted data) Understand: Recursion, Dynamic Programming, Greedy Algorithms Big O Notation : Focus on: O(1), O(log n), O(n), O(n^2) Shows how your code scales with larger inputs

1. Practice solving algorithm and data structure problems beforehand. 2. Clearly explain your thought process as you tackle each problem. 3. Optimize your solutions for efficiency and correctness. 4. Be ready to discuss trade-offs and alternative approaches. 5. Practice coding under pressure to simulate interview conditions.

Practice Platforms: Hit LeetCode, HackerRank, or similar sites. Challenge Variety: Mix topics (sorting, searching, etc.) and difficulty levels. Beyond Solutions: Optimize your code, not just find an answer.

Listen for Context Algorithmic thinking = solving the right problem. Pay close attention to constraints and special conditions. Don't be afraid to ask clarifying questions. Shows attention to detail & ensures you're on track.

Explain Your Thinking: Your thought process matters as much as the solution! Start with the overall strategy, then dive into details. Use clear, non-technical language when possible. If you write code, include comments to aid understanding.

Think Out Loud: Gives the interviewer insight into your problem-solving process. Facing Challenges: Don't hide roadblocks. Explain your thought process and potential solutions. Demonstrate Resilience: Shows you can adapt and learn from challenges. Interviewer Insight: They see how you'd tackle real-world problems on the job. Stand Out: Many candidates don't do this – it can make you memorable!

Some false the interview because they "just finish the problem". You wanna showcase your skill, so explain to them how you process the problem. Why? maybe you already know the question/problem but asking to clear the scope and make sure your assumption is correct. Like me, I want to start with easy problem and then expand it to a bigger problem to break your logic and code (That the way we force you to change the solution). For example you start with easy problem solving it with 3 big array and it cost you ~300MB of heap. I asked you to solve it with just 200MB. You are fine with counting sort to solve the problem or a normal array to store data, I break it with the data more than the size of your.

In interviews be genuine. Don't bluff. Say don't know if you don't know. One should not memorize algorithms before appearing instead understand it's working, what was the need for it , how is it better than other co existing method. It's ok if you are not able to code, coding skills can be developed or there are tools for it but your logic to approach the problem should be the skill. It's important to develop the analytical skills more than your coding skills.Algorithm is all about space and time complexity. Focus on how to have less space and faster results in all problems.

For my story, I wanna show that I have other ways of thinking about algorithms. It's not for showoffs in competitions; it should apply to daily work. Make it correct, make it small, make it easy, make it fast, and own it. With computer thinking and logical thinking, you cover all the possibilities that can happen and can explain it clearly to your customer. Like the cases we have to compare to make sure the 2 tables in 2 databases is "same". If I don't try to correct the intention of my PO, I can go the really wrong way of wasting time to complicating things and bringing it all out to my BE and solving it.
