In my experience when we implemented data Quality Checks and Audit trail for one of the legacy platforms, they are noticed immediately, but when a Crisis came with major incident of data loss due to fat finger error camme, the audit trails helped in identifying the root cause of the issue and some of the precautionary steps helped us recover without major delays.

In my opinion setting up effective collaboration is one of the most underrated skills. I really like shared GitHub repos with the ability for any team member to create pull requests when they have changes they would like to make. The team responsible for the repo can then review and discuss if necessary and implement changes quickly. This is a great way to keep everyone on the same page and keep things moving quickly.

Stay adaptable to changes and be ready to adjust your strategies as technology evolves. By staying curious, learning, and demonstrating your skills effectively, you'll stand out in the competitive world of data engineering.

The overall data development lifecycle is quite fragmented between technologies, roles, projects, etc. There are many innovations possible to unify towards creation of data products as opposed to just project deliverables. For example LinkML data schema language can be used to unify technical data schema dialects (json, avro, DDL, etc) and refine them with semantics. Also, it can help data catalogs to improve data discoverability. The overall ML workflow is now trapped within cloud provider technologies. To realize the promise of data spaces we need to advance hybrid cloud decentralized AI workflows and platforms. All these have an influence on how data engineering is done.

In today's digital landscape, where data serves as the lifeblood of businesses, ensuring its integrity is paramount. Persistance is key in Data Engineering projects while you works on adding value to the project by making small incremental changes, they will come back in bug ways over the time. I think it is true in any projects.

For me, becoming a data engineer was exciting because I really enjoyed manipulating data with Pandas in Python. There was something fun about transforming data that was not useful into a format that could be used for machine learning, AI, or analysis. I guess this could be called data cleaning, and I wouldn't want to do it all the time, but I find using Pandas to be an enjoyable challenge. Another thing that I enjoy is building pipelines in AWS. I did a lot of pipeline building as a software engineer and found it to be challenging and rewarding.

Contribute to the entire data development lifecycle (DDLC): data governance, data catalogs, feature engineering, feature stores, overall ML workflow, etc. Software engineering and ever architecture can be a great asset when building data products, data spaces, data meshes, etc.
