Before defining our niche, it is crucial to thoroughly study the market, prospects, and competition. Many companies struggle because prospects do not respond positively to the solutions they offer. This could be due to intense competition with similar propositions or being below the prospect priority list. Therefore, adopting a data-driven approach, experimenting, and breaking down the elements are essential before developing an effective Go-To-Market (GTM) strategy.

Identify the unique skills, knowledge or perspective you offer. Which industries or demographics require solutions in your area of strengths? To determine YOUR niche, it’s important to first find your own personal purpose! What lights you up, what gets you out of bed excited for ‘work’ each day? It’s not just what you’re good at or what will make you money (always perks and necessary). Remember… this is YOUR business and it will be much more enjoyable, if not fun!, to offer services that you are passionate about! Your enthusiasm will seal the deal more often than a great market analysis.

Continual learning will not only strengthen their knowledge, but improve their offering over and over again. Online courses, webinars, and even paid programs are available to all of us, and it’s up to us to carve out the time to always be learning and expanding our own offer.

One thing to do is look for a problem to solve better than anyone else is solving it right now. Leverage your experience and expertise in a way that you approach the solution in a different or unique way than that problem is being solved now. Spend time with current or former colleagues asking a lot of questions to get more insight/intel regarding the challenges and issues that they face in the area where you want to bring a solution.

Do things that people do not want to do and be an expert at it. Help others in the industry and the blessings will come back to you doubled.

Understand that you won’t have everything perfect the first time. Get out there and help people, offer your product, talk about your business. Even if you aren’t completely polished and ready… do it anyway. Your business will evolve based on the feedback you get from talking to your potential clients, you may get different jobs to lift your original offering, and you will be learning all along the way! Confidence comes during the time interacting with others and testing out your new entrepreneurial skills! What’s the worst that can happen… they say no and you learn! The best… they say YES! And you learn while getting paid.

I would make sure I have a few customers who will trust me. Finding the niche and the marketing efforts can come later and may evolve over time
