Have your elevator pitch ready, your LinkedIn QR code saved, and pace yourself.

ADD. VALUE. Keep those two words in mind with every conversation, ever connection, every message. If you're not adding anything, why are you writing? If you're asking to gain information for yourself, check online! If you're using the tired, dull approaches advocated by most ("Hi, I saw your post and found it really insightful...." blah blah blah :)), then take a pause and think again. Every message is an opportunity to create a wonderful relationship, add value, take your learning and that of your connections' forward. Are you doing that?

Please choose carefully. I reiterate my point - there is a lot of mediocrity in this market, in this industry. Choose wisely and don't just become a repeater of what is average. Look to move the needle forward, raise standards, stand out, reject mediocrity, and find a mentor who shares these beliefs. Only then will we salvage something of this industry.

again, add value in your engagements. a 'like' does nothing. a "I agree with you" does nothing. try to add to the conversation.. you'll gain far greater credibility and knowledge than by just being a yay-sayer.
