You can meet people anywhere! If focus your networking in a small silo, it will remain that way. Go to local or online events around topics that are interesting to you and connect with like minded people! One of the best things I have done in my career was to start attending local conferences in areas I was curious about but did not work in. The areas I chose where entrepreneurship, data analytics, and quantified self. I have many connections to this day from those events, and I didn't work in any of them.

Consider mentoring as another way to expand your network. Tapping into past mentors or mentees has a high likelihood of expanding your network since those folks have probably moved onto other organizations and can connect you with folks in their new network.
