Trends are so important in agribusiness. Consumer preferences and demand are ever changing so you always need to remain present to the consumer demand and how that could change in the future. Supply and demand economics of all agricultural commodities along with correlation to certain commodities. As an example cattle prices tend to trade in an inverse relationship vs corn prices. Lastly paying attention to how geopolitical situations affect the flow of agricultural products and how that may affect the factors I mentioned above.

Another important thing you need to do is to build and maintain a strong network of contacts and relationships in the agribusiness sector. This includes connecting with peers, mentors, experts, customers, suppliers, partners, and stakeholders who can offer you valuable insights, feedback, support, and opportunities. I spoke about some of the sector trends that are important. But you need to be able to translate some of those trends and how they affect the finance of the agribusiness. How will supply and demand shocks affect the balance sheet or income statement...also familiarize yourself with what risk management tools are available to help protect against market volatility.
