Get them talking then ask open-ended curious questions to keep the conversation going. Before long they'll be asking you about yourself and then you can bring your value to the table. To an extent, it's a numbers game. But you can sway the odds slightly if you reach out strategically. Go get em!

You don't make a best friend in one day, do you? It takes nurturing, follow up, and a genuine interest in building the friendship to turn it into something long-lasting and strong. The same goes with professional connections. Participate. Keep your promises. Show genuine interest in the other person/their work.
