PR is marketing without the budget or fiscal confetti. It also differs, because the communication folks know not to lie. They get called on the carpet immediately and that loses all credibility you can build over free coffees and a possible lunch. PR and marketing are a double headed coin and either side is heads up and sunny when it is correct. The matrix fro measuring success are much more obvious with marketing and if you don't want to think about how you are doing, that helps. Seriously I have spent a good deal of time in both trenches and ultimately like PR better. You really need to know what you are talking about and to whom, but you need to walk in both pairs of shoes to know what you enjoy and do best.
